Well… they ARE turning that old KMart into a new strip mall, which was KIND OF their initial plans… so there’s maybe like a 5% chance of this project happening!!!

Makes me wonder what the property will eventually become.
I don’t know what others think, but I think that this addition ruins the entire vibe of this cool little building. What on earth were they thinking when they got rid of the nature & patio space and replaced it with this Home Depot orange shed addition?

Agreed. But I guess they wanted more seating space that they could use throughout the year? But they’ll miss out on the customers that want to enjoy a nice outdoor dining experience.

I hear what you are saying, but have you walked by there yet? I don’t know that I’d personally trade living plants and glimpses of human experiences on a patio for this. It looks a permanent version of those New York City Covid sidewalk dining tents.
It’s soulless and stark to me. It feels unfinished. There’s nothing warm and inviting. Inside the windows, you see just a few tables and chairs. There’s nothing enticing me to explore.

They do. It’s an indoor/outdoor type of space. I walked by there again today and tried to pay attention. The space is sparsely appointed and not terribly inviting. It looks like the actual inside is a lot more finished. The trouble is getting folks to that space in the back. There is literally nothing enticing from the sidewalk.
more cozy and less exahust noise perhaps…. interior plants? tough call

I did see a potted plant near the front window, but it was basically dead. I’m not kidding when I say that it’s not inviting at all. They need to fix that.

Also noticed these new flex posts that were installed on Thursday at Hillsborough and Glenwood. Not really sure what the space is for but it keeps people from parking close to the intersection.

There’s a lot of places downtown that need that. It allows water thru to keep the tree alive, but you’re not stepping into dirt/mud if you have a crowded sidewalk.
