Moore Square

Is there a source for this? I’m seeing people throwing blame in various directions, mainly the developer, but this city failure narrative doesn’t seem to exist outside your posts here. If it’s the truth it should probably be widely known, but I’m not inclined to spread rumors or unverified info.

I have sources on the developers side. They don’t consider the project totally dead, but it is on life support. They want to meet with the city, but the city won’t meet with them. I’m sure the city attorney is telling everyone to stay quiet.

The title issues go back to when the block was just houses. The city is having to deal with ancestors of the property owners. And, I’m sure the city does not want to compensate them as they have already paid once for the land.

I will say that the project has not failed due to financing as some have speculated. The financing was in place. The city council also authorized money for the project. They were actually meeting with the city staff to finalize the lease agreement when the bombshell hit.

Is this property the city is acquiring or that the city already owned?

This is land the city already thought they owned.

If there is indeed a title issue I would suspect it involves the eastern portion of the block that is referred to as Moore Square East.

From a quick look at the deeds available via iMaps there are about a dozen parcels in that eastern portion that were all acquired by the City in 2021 from a LLC bankruptcy.

Deeds from the LLC to the City were all non-warranty (do not warrant title) deeds with the LLC acquisitions I spot-checked being in the late 90’s.

It certainly helps that the weather is very, very nice today but Moore Square felt :100:.

There was a nice little pull of people onto the sidewalks because of the Wienermobile but Lucky Tree had a bunch of people in front. People hanging out, playing ping pong, kids running around. There was everything and it was pleasant, exactly what we should strive for.

Relevant to the recent discussions about GoRaleigh Station, you can also feel a difference when there are less buses around. It becomes more people-powered when there aren’t any buses idling along Hargett and Blount. It’s subtle but I think it makes a huge difference.

I’m more convinced that the over capacity issue at GoRaleigh has been overlooked for too long and needs to be addressed. We simply just have not enough space for the level.of service we’re providing. Time to upgrade and redesign the system.

Thanks for the reminder. We actually had family in from Canada and western NC, including 2 of my nieces, and we all walked over to check it out. Fun time!

Whoa! That used to be a tiki bar or something didn’t it? I wish they’d get rid of the Kilo Pest Control ruin nearby.

Just watched a guy throw two bags of Cheerios on the ground in Moore Square then pull his dick out and piss right in the middle of it.

In the bus station or the park? Imagine if this happened when the Wienermobile was there.

In all seriousness though, imagine taking your kid(s) to Marbles, then walking across the street to the park, then that happens in front of you. Many people would never come back, and would also tell their friends and/or family about what they experienced.
