growth slowed down but this is not stagnation nor is Raleigh stagnating.

Probably more relative than anything…per the US Census, Charlotte added more residents between July 2024 and July 2025 than any other city in the country at almost 21k people. It would inevitably slow down compared to that, but the Charlotte region as a whole is still growing faster than every other comparable city by a decent margin.

The old building behind the La Farm in downtown Cary is apparently being demolished. Not sure what’s planned there.
And then there’s a bunch of new apartments going up behind the downtown park that I didn’t know about. Doing pretty well despite the town employees buying some upscale sunglasses.

I think the top photo is the area that is supposed to see a relocated train station? The second photo shows for sale townhomes. In the foreground is a recently razed parcel — not sure whether that will be another townhome section or if a new SFH will go there.

Oh ok, cool. I just assumed it was an extension of those taller buildings since I hadn’t seen them before with the previous stuff blocking the view. Good info, thank you! I did hear about the train station but forgot, so that “tracks.” 
Also just realized another small old house by the park is gone, probably bigger houses closer together coming soon.

That house just came down, was a surprise driving by there last week. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to the Modern Service building and lot on E. Chatham as that business just relocated. Also, across from those townhomes above there’s a fair number of houses that sold as a block and the area is all fenced off. Guessing a larger mixed use building?

It would be a genuine tourist attraction - come spend a long weekend in Raleigh, get a hotel downtown, and take the gondola to Dix Park and spend a whole day walking around and seeing all the various attractions and eateries around it.

And this is a map of what is being demolished for the new transit center. It was actually supposed to start in the spring, despite construction not seemingly beginning for another year or two. This will be quite the hole until then!

Great info. Definitely a lot of demo going on. Would be a good time for La Farm to do a nice renovation of their DT walk-in. Of course, an update to that location would be a good thing regardless.

The Waldorf Astoria Tower is now Miami’s tallest building, despite it still being under construction and short of its final height.
For reference, those twin buildings to its left are 538 feet each.

Every indication I can find shows that Mecklenburg County is still growing and the suburban counties next to it are growing even more rapidly. I don’t think Charlotte’s done. I just think it’s out of room to annex anything else, so any growth the city proper gets from now on will have to be from densification.

According to wikipedia, Raleigh has 18 over 250ft, 32 over 200ft. Buffalo has 17 & 29. Both have five over 100m/328ft.
