Wow much earlier than we thought. They are really rolling here. Let’s hope the convention center actually starts this fall
Is it just sitting there taking up space, or is it actually planted in in a huge concrete base several feet thick?
Zooming, it appears to be the latter.
Very much looking forward to the extension of Fayetteville St to the auditorium.
And that entrance is looking nicer now for sure.
I don’t know if these renderings of the Omni have been posted anywhere yet, but they showed them to us during the Raleigh Chamber Inter-city visit to “Phoenix” so I figured I’d share! (“Phoenix” because we spent most of our time in Tempe, and we stayed at the Omni in Tempe. I laughed because it was like saying you’re doing an inter-city visit to Raleigh but actually staying in Cary or Durham) Their Omni, while very nice, was much smaller than what they’re building here. They told us how excited they are to enter this market. Sorry for the poor quality! It was a PowerPoint projected onto a large screen.
I’m looking forward to this usually sleepy end of Fayetteville St to - hopefully - become the busiest and most bustling end of the street!
@JLambertMelton, look how positive you just turned @Jake!
That final shot should be bought by the city or Omni for publicity.
We can make that happen. Have their people call my people. ![]()
The crane rises today! Now we’ll really start hearing “omg Raleigh is booming” from the casuals. People like to see cranes.
And what a gorgeous day for hockey in Raleigh ![]()
WOW!!! Sounds like I need to make a detour downtown during lunch today ![]()
ooooOoooOOOOOooo I wonder if this crane will be built to full-height at once, or if they’re doing a Creamery-tower-crane job where it will be raised halfway through construction… Keep us in the loop!
I noticed the blue part too…is this a crane that can actually be extended or is that part just used to put the other pieces in place?
I really don’t think the creamery crane raises up but not sure. At the eastern, they did not raise the crane. They set up a separate crane that latched onto the side of the building as it rose to full height and then disassembled the shorter crane. I think that’s what they will do at the creamery because it doesn’t look like the creamery crane can be raised. Someone who actually knows this stuff please chime in. But the pictures I’ve seen of cranes that raise up do not look like the creamery crane.
I’m definitely excited to see this crane in the skyline, and the vertical progress on the hotel. Thanks for sharing!
Also, your comment reminded me of this woman doing a review of Raleigh that was shared on here (not sure if you were here yet), and one of her biggest gripes was that there were too many cranes and it annoyed her.
The whole thing was ridiculous, but that took the cake.
And hell yeah, go Canes!
Wow. This was so interesting. Who knew.
Aaaahhh! Crane erectile function!
