We’re excited to stop by. Hopefully it has the vibe of community / coffee shop / etc. Occasionally bike shops can feel a bit cliquish or intimidating to non-serious riders.
cannot say enough good things about the gang at the bike library. they are doing some really good things in the community
Agree. I truly wonder if they are ever going to open or if this is just a play to launder money.
New tenant going in at Platform. One of the storefronts along DuPont now has signs for Mood, a nail salon, opening this summer. Website is Moodraleigh.com if you want to check out their offerings.
I think someone shared this before. But here’s some renderings of the Bike Library. Also info from Raleigh Downtown Facebook page.
BIKE + COFFEE LOVERS REJOICE — Big things are coming to Downtown Raleigh!
This Spring, the Bike Library is expanding from its current shipping container location at Lake Raleigh to a permanent bike and café space at the Platform Raleigh Apartments (600 W Cabarrus Street).
Started by Cameron Zamot, this community hub is where bikes meet coffee, and coffee meets good vibes. Whether you’re into bikes, locally roasted coffee from Left Hook Coffee, or enjoying a drink at the bar – there’s something for everyone.
The Bike Library will offer bikes to buy, rent, or repair, while hosting awesome bike ride groups and events. The shipping container will still remain operational.
This new Bike Library location will be ideally located in Downtown Raleigh’s newest West End District, nestled between the Warehouse District and Dix Park. Stay tuned for updates and let’s ride toward a more sustainable, car-free Raleigh!"
There’s been some action in the back half of the structure (not visible from the street). Looks like they are setting it up for brewing equipment.
Cool and unique idea. Adds some character to this area IMO
Excavating West St. But don’t get too excited, West Street Extension isn’t happening anytime soon as far as I know.
I’ll take one step closer. At least we can see where that yellow brick road is supposed to be.
This is the single most important connectivity issue in the city.
Based on what is going on with the Hillsborough/Blue Ridge Road “tunnel” under the tracks, it appears to be a quagmire of problems. They have already pushed the finish date out by a year (or more?). If West Street is anything like Blue Ridge is turning out to be, maybe it is best to just leave things alone.
No no no, I can not deal with that negativity on a Monday morning. Closing my eyes and ears
How do you figure?
I feel like it’s more needed by those south of the tracks to go North more than needed by those north of Union Station to go South. I’m referencing driving but seems like pedestrian wise, there’s a lot of other ways to walk to things “on the other side” if you are up in the warehouse district
Well today we have rolls of green wire being put in. I guess we could say that the guts of the building. And they are slime green in color for those of you wishing to compare that to
as found in the wall behind said guts.
Looks like a construction cam on top of platform. Anyone have the link?
