Business Expansion in the Triangle

This is my experience, too. I’m a single-person department within another department. I rarely have reason to work with people in my department. The people I do interact with are SMEs across 18 departments in different buildings and locations.

Working from home during COVID, I’ve spent a lot more time working when I would otherwise be interrupted by people socializing if I was in the office.

I feel like WFH has actually catapulted my career and development in many ways.
Also, I’m not saying I’d kick and scream to avoid the office, no- there are many valuable things that the office still does bring. I still go sometimes to Atlanta just to go to the office and will do so here as well.

I worked from home (use to, now retired) for last 15 years in a position that made ~90% of my work related interactions with people outside the company I worked for (EDI specialist). Biggest problems I had was; 1. if did need to interact with someone it was harder than just walking over to them, 2. found if hard to keep in loop of all information that was informally shared around and office and I guess 3. new people at office had no idea who I was. But all in all I would still want to work from home most of time. Maybe go to office for a day every few weeks.

I agree with you. I have a job that really doesn’t translate well to working in open-space, and so I started working at home almost 6 years ago now. I can go in if needed, but like others, I don’t really work with people located in RTP. It’s a global company and people can work from anywhere, and often are working hours to accommodate colleagues across the world.

Companies that load up on amenities give me the creeps. I don’t want my whole life to be work - if you’re offering dry-cleaning, haircuts, fitness centers and happy hours, then it seems like you don’t want people going home.

Yeah, starts looking a little culty when you’re offering your employees entertainment options to enjoy during off work hours but still on work grounds…

Looks like TCC just announced a project near Charlotte…

Fingers crossed for interesting projects to be announced in the Triangle soon.

A lot of the Bay Area is like this. Give the employees everything that they need and want, and perhaps they’ll make their lives revolve around their jobs and their colleagues.

I have a bunch of friends who have been with Bandwidth for awhile. The first week of being back in the office full time over 80 people quit and it wasn’t just first or second year employees.

The option to WFH is great for flexibility but I don’t like it as my main go-to plan. The way that work and home life tend to bleed into each other has not been great (for me).

You are right. The option is great. Many days I make a game day call - like today’s crappy weather told me to WFH today. Sure hope inclement weather days are a thing of the past.

Wait, I’m not ready to give up my snow days. Just think of the elementary school children.

They need all the school days they can get!

OMG :+1:
I was just thinking the same thing!
The more I read that they “provide” on this campus like setting the more it sounds like a cult…now, add some apartments, grocery, church, town clock…Welcome to YOUR new work LIFE…welcome, welcome, you can never leave…creepy! :zombie: :woman_zombie:

It’s like “welcome to the Hotel California”. You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

I am hopeful they build more then logistic centers in Raleigh.
Notice there are 3 traffic circles right there, 2 at the 85 exit/on-ramps? Makes me wonder how big trucks do with those!! It must be ok, lol

I was thinking Pullman, IL or Anniston, AL. I am sure there were a couple mill towns like this and plenty of mining towns up in the hills. All company towns - work, live, shop, worship, play on company property. Lose your job, lose your house. All that is missing is getting paid in company scripts that is only good in company stores!

They build a “Truck Apron” on the outer circle to allow tires onto the curb and make the turn. They are used by other vehicles besides just Tractor Trailors, ones in the inner city need to accommodate for Fire Trucks, School Buses, and fixed Box trucks. The ones on Hillsborough St. all have them as well.

Elon Musk discussing the 4680 Battery that is currently rumored to be the “plant” being targeted for Raleigh.

Job Posting that piqued folks interest:

If this somehow comes to pass…this would be HUGE…especially coming on the heels of Apple & Google!!!
