City of Raleigh Municipal Campus

With 5 more floors to go + parapet wall… this is genuinely going to look huge across from the park and in this area.

I walked by on my way from Wicked Witch last night and imagined the parking deck behind it with a 20+ story tower, and the building across the street that’s supposedly slated for a 20 story tower…. Massive change coming. One thing I really wish is that we can rescue the building from AT&T back and turn it into a theater- it could be a beautiful DPAC-lite venue.

But have you considered the crime in Nash Square?

I’m kidding. Please don’t everyone.

I really do think this whole area could be amazing and the new center of the city if the firehouse, Berkeley area, and N&O site all get built to their potential. And as you say, the rest of this municipal block being built up as well. Even with the AT&T monstrosity, this would still all be pretty nice. And maybe that would spur at least a bigger mural on that building, if not relocating it just for the financial benefit then of selling the land.

Nice picture, even if you did blatantly steal it from Mr. Suarez’s blog…

I don’t steal. I borrow. I’m going to give it back!

I am liking this very much. Especially after all the back and forth and rigamarole about a new building, I think we are getting something the old wood can be proud of that doesn’t break the public bank.

the monumental staircase during construction

And it’s the stairway to council chambers.

Crews are working on what the team calls the monumental stairs. Monumental meaning epic or grand. These stairs will be a prominent feature as you enter City Hall and will lead to the second floor and the city council chambers. The public art, a light installation, will be suspended from the ceiling of the two-story lobby and up the grand staircase, creating an inspiring scene.

Now, imagine walking into new City Hall and climbing the stairway to the city council chambers.
