Dorothea Dix Park

We’d need MUCH deeper pockets for a MASSIVE donation just to burry the eyesore. So much better places for that money to go.

Will Lake Wheeler Rd. ever look like this?

This looks really nice.

CC is going to vote on funding for this project sometime soon so I’d assume so. This also might be the reason why the sun flower project has started.

It would be cool if these incorporated a lighting component.

The LWR improvement project is funded by the 2022 Parks Bond. So I’m not sure what you mean by CC voting on funding soon.

The sunflowers are huge. The hoops are ~20’ in diameter. With the petals they are at least 30’ in diameter. I think they’re fantastic.

Ohh I saw it on what I thought was an upcoming agenda during the red hat meeting, my mistake. That’s good to hear

Are they voting on the design? I know there were two options that were proposed.

Great Scott!

There is an upcoming public hearing on rezoning Z-11-24, which is on Lake Wheeler and Centennial. Maybe that’s what you saw? I’m supportive of this rezoning as it will preserve the existing greenway connector between the Centennial Bikeway and the WC Greenway. It will also dedicate a new greenway easement between Lake Wheeler and the existing connector trail. This is big because it formalizes an unofficial greenway access point.

I think the plans for the Lake Wheeler Rd. improvement project are pretty much set: Lake Wheeler Road Improvement Project | Raleighnc.gov

I was not in the loop about these sunflower petal sculptures but drove down Lake Wheeler toward downtown yesterday. The view when these appear caught me off guard; it’s really quite spectacular when you understand the scale in person and see the skyline beyond. And with the density under construction nearby I could see this becoming a really cool neighborhood in the near future.

I saw that online earlier but didn’t post it because it puts my lame pics from last weekend to shame.
