What is your solution? Colonization? This is an incredibly unfortunate situation, however I’ve only read the same typical historical solutions. Do you suggest creating a false narrative to bring in the National guard?

No, it’s not his solution. You seem to really care about the history of Saint Augustines. If you didn’t know them and they owed you $20 million, the last thing you’d be thinking about is how to protect their history.

COLONIZATION lmao. See, it’s this kind of insane rhetoric that loses people. It all comes down to money, and the mismanagement of it. You’re really pushing so hard to make this something it’s not, at least in here, as you seem to insinuate that members of this forum are “rooting” for the downfall of this historic institution out of racism….. and that doesn’t really sit right with me, my guy. Pretty damn sure the vast majority of members’ comments on this matter have been that we’re rooting for the students (read: KIDS) who’ve been negatively impacted by the leadership of SAU that has done such a piss-poor job at running things. Nobody is rooting for the downfall of this university: it’s already past the “downfall” point. That’s everybody’s point in here. They’ve run their institution into the ground, possibly criminally (we don’t know because there’s also zero transparency), and it’s the students and - yes- ultimately the city’s history that suffers, because it’s becoming increasingly likely that SAU will cease to exist and will probably be liquidated (i.e. @Mr.Big’s comment that “The IRS will likely be the largest creditor, and I seriously doubt that they care about “concerns can be addressed collaboratively to find solutions that preserve the city’s history.” They want their money.”)
I’m bout ready to mute you completely if you keep up the borderline rage bait/troll behavior, as this is generally a space for civil, non-aggressive discussion - and you’ve been anything but in your accusations and assumptions. I also would like to reiterate that none of us - including you - have ANY power nor influence over any of this shit lmao. It’s well past the point of no return, the writing is on the wall. It’s unfortunate, but the blame lies solely on SAU leadership board. Not us, not the City, not “racism” - the SAU leadership and them alone. Please redirect your fire and fury towards them. I understand my verbiage may be a little bit disheartening due to this systematic culture. However, there may be a misunderstanding. Capitalism falls under the umbrella of colonization. The last time I checked capitalism is about money… Right? I’m asking for a positive solutions, outside of typical gentrification. We have to be honest. The history and accreditation of this college must remain in place for all Raleigh citizens. I’ve taken action to speak with members to let them know that we have a passion for this university and their finances are being preyed upon by big money!!! At the moment they are very aware!!!
Are you suggesting that black and other minority small businesses are supporting colonization? Are you suggesting that other HBCU’s that struggled and then found a way to recover and survive sold out as Uncle Toms? We have to be honest - SAU needs to pay its bills, and if SAU loses its accreditation, it does not need to remain in business. If it does fail, and the land is sold to pay creditors, then yes, some type of memorial needs to be placed on the land, so the memory and importance of the institution is not lost. I do agree with you there.

im not sure what degrees are offered there still…some state help perhaps for transfers? late 90s unca took my wake tech enviromental studies credits after review.
I honestly can’t imagine why someone would enroll in SAU at this point. Who is willing to pay all that money when there is are significant odds the school won’t exist in four years? I am surprised that they can pull any students whatsoever.

A positive solution would be selling the land and distributing proceeds to alumni and the rest of the local universities offering the 50 students a free ride to complete their degree.

@dtraleigh I know that when this thread was started in 2018, it made sense to have a thread that discussed both Shaw and St. Augustine’s, but in the last seven years the fortunes of these two universities have diverged wildly. Shaw still has a promising vision for its future while SAU is just a basket case. Notwithstanding that they are both HBCUs, they have very little in common these days.

Hahahahaha! Seriously, though, maybe my point wasn’t clear. Any thread about St. Augustine’s should be neither sunny nor hopeful. A thread about SAU should be deeply pessimistic.
But a thread about Shaw, on the other hand, would be a much better place for sunny optimism. Shaw and SAU are getting lumped in together solely because they are both historically black universities, which is about the only thing they still have left in common now.
