Five Points, East End Market, & Raleigh Iron Works

In my experience, even the “not new” places are expensive. The dive bar “Johnson Stree Yacht Club” is stupidly expensive for what it is, and it’s not sitting in a shiny new development. I bought a High Noon there last Summer and it was more expensive than I’ve found them in South Beach. That is messed up.

Call me old fashioned but when I go out - The last thing I need is something “to do” other than drink and socialize or go to dinner and a show. I was at Moon Room the other night and the place was at capacity. More of that please.

Is Moon Room not a jazz bar? Was there not live music when you went and the place was at capacity? Live music, IMO, = something “to do” haha

Right but I don’t need to do anything other than listen to music and catch a buzz. Bowling is too much. I’ll do pool or darts if its available but only until i start seeing double.

I tend to agree with this as well, but I still feel like it could have worked (see the popularity of, say, Pins Mechanical in other cities).

Tbh, from reading the reviews, it seemed like the consensus was that the food and drinks just… weren’t very good at all, especially for the price. It had like a 3.9/5 on Google Maps which is wildly low for a new, local place of that caliber. Maybe it’s just that simple.

Ok but again, I consider “live music” to be “something to do” - it’s certainly more than JUST getting drinks and that’s it. So you’re just in agreement with me. You went to a live music bar to get a drink … AND listen to some live music. And I’d argue, again, that we need more of that. More “things to do” - be it duckpin bowling, or even just more live music.

I love a good old fashioned.

And I prefer to drink myself into a stupor while sitting in silence at a dimly lit bar, but maybe that’s just me.

I travel to sf and seattle for work regularly. almost everything besides housing is the same price in raleigh… it drives me crazy

I think the point is that we already have the ‘place to just get drinks’. Like a lot of those. Would be nice to have some variety. To me, Jaguar was the perfect concept, but kinda felt too big inside. I think they could’ve accomplished the same with about half the space and maybe a loft mezzanine bonus area. They kinda took a big swing on the first go at it? Maybe in hindsight I wonder if it goes better to get it established and then expand?

I’ve been asking for the city to take down more utility poles and underground them. Not like this tho…

At least WRAL didn’t call this downtown.

I lived above Hayes Barton Pharmacy years ago. Cars loved to snap the power pole that was in the sidewalk in front of the church. I watched 6 or 7 hit it. Once watched a lady run her Volvo up the steps of the church. Told the police she’d mistakenly taken her dogs medicine that morning. Fun place to live and watch traffic lol

I’d still love to see a giant roundabout there.

That, and several other examples are why I’ll never eat outside of Lola’s or Lillys pizza.

Lilly’s had their entire outdoor seating mowed through one night but luckily were closed.

I stole a lot of my dance moves from the video. I often asked myself if I was right, or if I was wrong. Mostly girls just askes’ my God, what have you done?"

Most of my dance moves came from Whip It & Rock Lobster.
