People will afford it we’re a tech capital, cmon man you know better.
The Five Points intersection study update [somewhat]… I guess we’re somewhere between ‘we’ll be studying this soon’ to ‘almost studying’. Followed by the response survey of the ‘kinda about to study’ stage.
Reminder from the first presentation:
Any movement is good movement, that intersection is a pedestrian nightmare and no fun to drive, but it’s got so much potential as a cool neighborhood.
The abrupt beginning of street parking with minimal signage coming in on Glenwood from the north results in some of the scariest merges and near-misses I’ve ever seen on a relatively innocuous road.
That seems pretty positive? Not sure how long is typical from recommendations → construction though. Assuming it isn’t funded as well
If there was funding you could go straight to survey and design to construction in about a year for an intersection.
Thanks as usual. Do you think funding for something like this will be difficult? Seems like it might get prioritized given the safety concerns but maybe wishful thinking
I’m not sure about this one honestly. Given the neighborhood, it’s likely to be politically charged and I could see the study recommendations coming out and then a council member or someone with influence saying it’s not what they want and then it gets scrapped. Or the public complains that it’s not what they want, even though they had multiple public outreach openings.
Since it’s just an intersection I don’t see funding being a hard thing but NCDOT could also muddy things if they want to keep influence over what happens. This study is being commissioned by the city but it’s a state road. They should be able to do a roundabout within ROW but if they need to acquire any then that’s where things could really start to stack up time wise.
As a resident of this area who goes through this intersection every day, I’ll take the figure 8 design all day long.
Ditto. I live here too and the current configuration is bad for both pedestrians and cars. When the kids were small, we learned not to stroll across—or even near—Glenwood, too many near misses. As for driving, I usually sit through at least 3 red light cycles on WM to get through. Then, there’s the awkward different ROW’s for different approaches. Most folks have no idea what to do. Couple that with the speeding on Glenwood, and it’s a nightmare. #teamroundabout
I don’t recall the name of this development on Wake Forest Rd near the East End Market. But it looks like this is now For Sale.
Says for lease not for sale.
Likely for the actual retail spots in East End Market
Shit, never mind your right
if i recall five points has been ‘cool’ for a long time
Not if you actually go there. Lol
the time i spent there was rather pelasant. years back it was a desirable place to live…noone is rushing out of the area are they?
Saw this on LinkedIn this morning. Says they’re on track to start opening up the office space here Q3 2022 which (checks watch) should be happening soon?
It’s going to hit in phases, so that sounds plausible. The building along Atlantic should be first.
Yes, tenants have already sent out RFP’s for some spaces. I am not sure how much is leased or how many tenants. Everything I’ve seen is from the arch top building.
Any idea if there’s a plan to connect to Capital/Crabtree Blvd? I noticed the buildings are sticking out over the tree line at that intersection. It’s crazy how close it is but nearly impossible to walk there from that side.
