Future of Glenwood South

I read somewhere that the tin roof wasn’t, but plans always change, would be a shame to lose it, the place adds alittle character to Glenwood South, if you have a tin roof it means you have a nice bar and club scene, they don’t just open up everywhere.

The TinRoof renovation wasn’t really a high dollar investment in the neighborhood, and it would be gone at the first possible break in the lease for the landlord if there was a 40 story tower waiting in the shadows. (see what I did there to trigger the NIMBYs?)

Any idea what’s moving into the old Still Life Nightclub? They’re currently tearing down the deck and have been doing work inside the last couple of weeks.

I feel like this spot could work great for a cool restaurant concept. Hoping it’s not another cheap put together bar.

Smoky Hollow phase 17?

All I can focus on in this pic is the giant blank concrete wall on that parking deck - would be a prime spot for a huge colorful art mural

I look it everyday and have thought the same. Perfect blank canvas for some talented artist.

I believe it’s Bunch of Fives Hospitality. Be grateful it won’t be Still Life again

Any word on the Madison project (603 Glenwood)? It’s supposed to break ground this year but I don’t see any permitting happening on the development portal.

Have wondered the same thing. Walk by there most days and have seen no activity at all.

I looked back recently - supposed to start in November. Do they need permits now?

That’s good timing. 615 Peace should be done by then and that prevents 2 sides of that block from being under construction at the same time.

Speaking of Glenwood South, a good friend of mine lives at 222 Glenwood and this “incident” is causing quite the conversation over the past week. This video has over 8.5 Million views.

Saw this. I believe it happened on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s viral on Reddit too. It’s crazy. Do we know if the guy that fell is okay?

Also somebody got shot outside of Carolina Ale House this past Friday at 2:30am.

We had reservations at Plates on Saturday. It didn’t occur to us that it was still considered St. Patrick’s Day because neither of us care about that holiday. Even at 7 pm there was quite a scene going on along Glenwood South.

Same with date night at the Rockford followed by C Grace

I need to browse some headlines to see if this rise of “bad behavior” here is unique to Raleigh or there’s something else at play across the state/country.

Bad driving behavior is up, crime is up, incidents on planes are up. It’s almost like overall stress has just ticked up a notch. I certainly can’t launch a research project here but I do feel something else is at play here.

I’ll take ‘2 year worldwide pandemic for 1000’, Alex.

No, it’s not just Raleigh, it’s also nation wide. Durham, along with over a dozen major US cities, recorded all time homicide numbers in 2021.

I’m almost certain that victimizing the police for everything had 0% impact on these issues. Where is that sarcastic font again?

For sure.

Let me also flip it for a second here. Due to the same pandemic stress issues, maybe nearby neighbors are less patient, maybe they are calling the police more than before therefore more problems are reported.

Lots of factors going on here. It’s a tough one and I find the criticism of the police and council’s handling on this a bit misplaced as if the solution is clear and they just aren’t using it.
