That’s the same last name as that beverage director guy from Bida Manda/Brewery Bhavana who was convicted of secretly taping his sexcapades or whatever. Wonder if there’s a connection.
This is a repost from my blog, but I have been keeping an eye on this spot for sure!
Boulted Bread
Boulted bread has been slinging delicious breads and pastries from their ovens and custom stone ground mill in their storefront at 614 West South Street in Downtown Raleigh since 2014. They have made a lot of use and a lot of bread out of that space in the last 8 years, but soon, they will be on the move.
New Location
The new larger location is a few blocks away at 328 Dupont Circle. Still under construction, with no opening date announced, the team has shared some interior progress photos of interior demolition and plumbing installation on their Instagram account. You can see photos of the exterior below taken at the end of June. The new location is right down the street from The Platform.
You can go to the NC Secretary of Stat\e website and search for that LLC. They’re going to have actual ownership information in the annual report section
What is the deal with these buildings? Oak City Cycle and Krave seem to be putting money into their spots, which leads me to believe there is no movement on redevelopment there.
But what about that strip of shops next door? That is prime real estate and could be something awesome if it gets redeveloped.
meh, i don’t need everything to be redeveloped. person street does fine and is one of my fav places to hang (i also live walking distance to it which helps)
If they could have 3ish story buildings closer to the street with parking in the back, but keep the texture of these small independent shops, that would be awesome.
But you’re right, far from Raleigh’s most pressing issue. Person Street is awesome.
This area is good. Leave it alone. What is with you people??? FAAAAAAKKKK
Change doesn’t have to be bad!
That’s a cheap 80s-ish brick-and-cinderblock box with a parking strip out front that has good tenants. If there was a way to keep the cool shops, but in an attractive building with, say, some nice deck space out front, wouldn’t that be nice? We’re just spitballing after all.
Geeze, people. Calm down. I live here too.
When I say redeveloped I don’t mean razed and built up 5 stories. Maybe I should have used a different word phrase like “fixed up”.
That little strip is sad. Just a few parking spots and a few spaces that aren’t upfit for anything more than office space or art galleries. It’d be nice for it to have a face-lift, some better curb appeal and reconfigured to attract some better concepts.
I have kids, and walking down that side of Person St, past these businesses is risky with cars whipping in, people backing out, etc. Is it too much to ask to have some nice outdoor front patios, some planters, etc?
sorry, i think i misunderstood. redeveloping the actual parking lots would be great. i like that PSB has taken over a little part of their parking lot. turning the parking lots into a little plaza would be great, and redeveloping the corner of person and franklin is necessary too
I would think part of the reason some of these shops are here is because the buildings are not nice, and they can afford the rent, and I for one would be sad to see these places go.
I’m in the camp of liking Person St pretty much as is, right now, minus the former O2 Fitness building and HUGE surrounding surface lot that currently all sits empty. Now THAT is prime for a demo and new development. The brick strip mall where Krave is going is actually one of the cooler retail mixes in Raleigh - there’s the cycle shop, a tattoo parlour, So & So Books, Unlikely Professionals around the corner, now Krave and a few other service shops. Not keen on that getting redeveloped or even renovated, for that matter, as it’d probably result in more than a few of those places having to close/move out.
They at least need to do something about the parking lot. The existing setup is pretty dangerous and also poorly maintained. I’m cool with keeping a few parking spots, but they really should redesign the configuration to eliminate the possibility of backing directly into the sidewalk and road. It’s a miserable experience as a driver, let alone as a pedestrian.
C. Grace closing according to their Facebook page
This can’t happen!!! Why???
Now that one hurts. One of the coolest place in the whole area. Yikes.
ETA: And I really liked the Empress Room. It was such a welcome contrast from all the sports-bar type places which was just about all I could find when I moved here in 2005.
I heard this over the weekend from some of the musicians that play their regularly. I believe it boils down to the owner getting closer to retirement and recently losing their general manager to another job.
I really hope this is a temporary closing and someone else takes over the business
Oh man, hate to hear this. Probably one of my favorite places in town.
While this is yet another small performance venue I haven’t been to (like Goodnights/Kings + Neptune/Berkeley potentially), it does seem like we’re losing them at an awfully fast clip without new ones replacing them.
