That’s what I’d expect of a hotel and convention area with barely any street level retail space or residents. Dead. that’s what’s allowing Airbnb to thrive is the number of people who hate the inevitable bore of a convention district.
My thought is that it’d would have been a better fit in the Warehouse District like say, next to Heirloom. More evening residents over there too for dinner business. Also would have buttressed the west side as the vegetarian area with Fiction Kitchen and Remedy both close-ish.
Hey guys/gals - first post here. Just moved to DTR a few months back and am hoping all the continued development will help my future property value! I actually tried the Rush Bowls location on Hillsborough last week. Being on Fayetteville is probably a great location for them as the majority of their revenue will be generated from breakfast / lunch business M-F. That location is central to a majority of the office space and workforce in DTR and I doubt their business model in that location is focused on dinner traffic.
Actually, I recall construction work taking place in the Sir Walter in the former CFA as well as a space to the left of the front door. Perhaps that is being converted into new retail space.
Somebody didn’t want to pay Growler’s franchise fees or royalties or something like that. I doubt it even changed hands or do we know it did in fact change hands? They barely had time to print out new menus in the time it was closed!
In other very important restaurant news, I finally went to Wye Hill before the Flaming Lips concert at Red Hat. It looks way better inside, tried 4 beers and a cocktail (not all mine) that ranged from pretty decent to good, and ate the fancy fries and hummus which were both quite good, and tried the catfish BLT (also very good). I hope this place sticks around, and judging by the crowd outside, it’s doing ok. Also, my gf snapped this pretty nice pic.
