General Retail/Restaurant News

ITB insider is reporting the Chick-fila under the Sir Walter apartments will become “Rush Bowls”
I got this from their website: “offering meals crafted from the finest fruit, topped with granola & honey, and blended with protein, vitamins and other nutritious ingredients that taste delicious while promoting a healthy lifestyle.” https://rushbowls.com/

I wish them the best of luck

Sounds like a very lunch/daytime focused concept. I am sure the Sir Walter residents will flock to it, lol.

That’s what I’d expect of a hotel and convention area with barely any street level retail space or residents. Dead. that’s what’s allowing Airbnb to thrive is the number of people who hate the inevitable bore of a convention district.

My thought is that it’d would have been a better fit in the Warehouse District like say, next to Heirloom. More evening residents over there too for dinner business. Also would have buttressed the west side as the vegetarian area with Fiction Kitchen and Remedy both close-ish.

Yeah, with their location in that building, could they have misaligned their product’s target audience any worse if they tried?

Seems a better concept for one of the food halls, the city market or the warehouse area. But good luck to them!

Hey guys/gals - first post here. Just moved to DTR a few months back and am hoping all the continued development will help my future property value! I actually tried the Rush Bowls location on Hillsborough last week. Being on Fayetteville is probably a great location for them as the majority of their revenue will be generated from breakfast / lunch business M-F. That location is central to a majority of the office space and workforce in DTR and I doubt their business model in that location is focused on dinner traffic.

Pretty cool shop! Owner tells me they will close in September but reopen in the former Chick Fil A space in the Sir Walter right after.

Hmmm…the same space Rush Bowls is moving into?

Didn’t they just move in there??

Yeah, I’m confused. Not sure why the owner would lie, but maybe there’s enough space for both? Or maybe the Rush Bowls tip is false?

Edit: OR, maybe the Bowls will be fizzier than the Hillsborough location?

Haha. That’s what he said and I didn’t think quick enough about Rush Bowls. :man_shrugging:

Actually, I recall construction work taking place in the Sir Walter in the former CFA as well as a space to the left of the front door. Perhaps that is being converted into new retail space.

Maybe one of them is moving into the bail bonds place on the other NW corner of the building. I think it’s also vacant

They did move in a few months ago, but I believe this location was intended to just be a temporary popup.

Riddle Raleigh is open. That was a quick turnaround and the place looks exactly the same as Growler USA.

Somebody didn’t want to pay Growler’s franchise fees or royalties or something like that. I doubt it even changed hands or do we know it did in fact change hands? They barely had time to print out new menus in the time it was closed!

If it lasts 6 months I’ll be shocked

The previous owners were Indian so based on the website/menu I would be shocked if it had changed owners.

In other very important restaurant news, I finally went to Wye Hill before the Flaming Lips concert at Red Hat. It looks way better inside, tried 4 beers and a cocktail (not all mine) that ranged from pretty decent to good, and ate the fancy fries and hummus which were both quite good, and tried the catfish BLT (also very good). I hope this place sticks around, and judging by the crowd outside, it’s doing ok. Also, my gf snapped this pretty nice pic.
