General Retail/Restaurant News

Looking at the reviews, it was only rough due to a list. Seems like there may have been some kind of mix-up because a lot of people showed up expecting to be in the friends and family soft opening, but they weren’t on the list.

Here you go!

Yeah that’s kind of shitty. Google reviews has like 3 or 4 people (out of 20 reviews) that basically tried to show up to a soft opening and were turned away and then crapped on a new restaurant. I’m sure that’s frustrating, but at least give them a chance.

I’m no sign expert, but it seems kinda strange to me to split the name like they did.

Yeah, don’t understand wrapping that corner in the nook when you were going to have the ‘icon’ logo on the street side anyway

I, for one, am excited to visit Sirwal Coffee!

It’s kind of like that tea with the things in it, but it’s coffee.

Here’s a quick review of two new places and one long-time favorite from tonight.

Went to Birdie’s for a drink after work - very good drinks, the vibe was nice and was fairly busy. Huge upgrade from Cafe Carolina. I’m looking forward to trying the food next time. It’s a great addition to that side of town. I was hoping the outdoor bar window would be open, but it wasn’t. Outdoor space is 10/10.

Daijobu ramen is :fire: :fire:! Had the Spicy Tan Tan noodles and I’d put it up to any other ramen I’ve had. I can’t wait to go back in the winter. The space is small and very well done. Can’t say enough good things, go check it out.

Foundation has their new fall menu, we tried 5 of the new cocktails and none of them were a miss. New artwork was also worth checking out.

Overall a nice little Fayetteville Street (and adjacent) evening. Enjoy the weather while it’s here!

The new Trader Joe’s in Brennan Station on Creedmoor Road has signage up, fencing down, all shelves up and fully lit. “Now Hiring” sign is up. Maybe they will open by Thanksgiving. Now to build something like this downtown.

Sirwal Kaffee…sounds like a Turkish Phd

Sadly the TJ’s on Wake Forest Rd. is likely way too close to downtown for them to commit to another one, but I’d be more than happy if we could land a Lidl or Aldi.

It would be very nice if they were able to put one in the new developments near Dix. The 2 TJs in Cary are 4 miles apart, and the TJ on Wake Forest is 4 miles from the intersection of S Saunders and Lake Wheeler. I think Weaver St being so close is a real deterrent for them

If Harris Teeter does indeed go in the 600 New Bern project, then I’d bet we’d probably be done with new grocery stores downtown for the next 15+ years.

Isn’t there a theoretical grocery store space in the Moore Square project as well??

That’s probably true. The only other place I could imagine one going in addition would be Downtown South, but that’s really not downtown.

Until “downtown South” actually exists… I’m not even considering it as a viable option for future anything hahahaha

Timber Pizza, an award winning pizza shop out of DC, just opened in High Park at the old Ladyfingers location. I’m super pumped about this one because it’s about a 2 minute walk from me! https://www.timberpizza.com/

I put a list together a few weeks ago of Raleigh/Surrounding Areas restaurants/bars - and Durham restaurants/bars. Also included a tab for area daily bar specials.

Need to do a deeper dive to clean this up a bit (and would like to get it into a format different than Google Sheets), but figured I’d share here given the mutual interest in the food/bev options available in the area.
