Holiday Inn and New Kimpton Hotel

Maybe Pepsi would sign-on for naming rights!

Looks like a pill perhaps Viagra could get the naming rights. The Viagra Hotel.

I will miss our round Holiday Inn! Donna & I were married December 1 1979 & we had a very good steak dinner that evening there before traveling to Rocky Mount on the way to Williamsburg Va. I lost Donna 2 years ago to cancer & I so miss her.

Dwight I’m very sorry for your loss. My parents got married about the same time and I just lost my dad a few months ago. I will keep you in my thoughts. And I can’t imagine my life without my wife. I’m glad for your good memories.

Looks like this one is delayed indefinitely. Here’s a summary of the article from TBJ. (Thanks ChatGPT)

The Holiday Inn hotel in Downtown Raleigh, purchased by Tidal Real Estate Partners, won’t be demolished soon. The new owners are evaluating options, considering renovation or closure. Plans for a 20-story tower were approved in 2023, including a hotel, apartments, and retail space. The fate of the hotel will be decided in October, with reservations still being accepted. Tidal Real Estate’s project timeline is uncertain, with no demolition permits applied for yet. The hotel, built in 1969, is a landmark in Raleigh but contrasts with newer developments. Other real estate projects in Raleigh are also facing delays due to market conditions.

I wonder if the new Omni announcement is causing them to rethink their plans.

If any building in DT Raleigh should be converted into condos, this is it. Change my mind.

I don’t think so. DTR lacks hotel rooms, particularly mid-scale and upper mid brands. I’d say this is rather because the market is just not great at the moment until interest rates go down.

Sad day. The only good thing about this is we get to appreciate this architectural time capsule a bit longer.

It’ll be cheaper to demolish if they let it… :zipper_mouth_face:

Raleigh Magazine says Tidal still planning to develop this project but TBD construction start but not cancelled.

Yeah just came here to post this.

Thank God they squashed those rumors that they were spreading! Lol.

At least it gave the commenters another chance to complain how boring the new building is or how we’re losing our unique history.

TBJ is reporting that the Holiday Inn hair curler may not be demolished after all. Not much info in the article. They are only taking reservations through the end of next Feb, but the ownership group is discussing options.
