I am happy to report that there are TWO crane operators (and not just one). I was seriously worried about how this was working given the early mornings and late hours of operation.
Also I have it under good authority that we will see those pre-fab windows with frames continuing past floor two. This will speed up the project and give us some interesting photos in the days ahead.
forgive my ignorance, but by “whole building envelope” do you mean the outside walls will be panels? I take it that is what we see here - I did stayed at home last night, so am missing my Holiday Inn Express intelligence boost.
Yes, exactly! (not ignorant – I’m just using nerdy architect terms)
A typical construction process would have them build the structure, metal studs, sheathing, waterproofing, insulation, air gap + attachment system, and finally the cladding. You’d generally see each layer go onto the building separately before they move onto the next one. And you’d probably see different trades/subcontractors handling the windows vs. the solid panels vs. the waterproofing.
With a unitised system, they’ve split the façade into panels and are prefabricating each section in a factory, shipping it to the site, and attaching it to the structure – boom, done! Saves a ton on labor and materials, and they are able to build everything in a controlled environment. It takes a lot more up-front work to coordinate though, and you don’t have the ability to easily correct things in the field.
It may be that they are still going to build some of the layers inside these panels on-site though; I can’t see what exactly has been incorporated into the system.
Eleven is done. They just need to put the ceiling on twelve. They will have that done this weekend or first part of next week. Counting not my strong suit but that’s the way I was doing it.
I figured they’re still pouring the concrete ceiling of 11 on the second half, and you were referring to that as the ceiling of 12. I get what you’re saying now. We’re counting the same way, I just misunderstood.
