Plus all these dang luxury apartment buildings. We should only build affordable housing, but not in a neighborhood me or my friends live in, nor any historic districts, nor anywhere where it could be seen as gentrification or displacement.
Yes. Exactly this! Only apartments with plastic countertops and white appliances, in a giant field not near anyone or anything. Itâs called density!
Itâs very important to quote Jane Jacobs while you lobby for it. Itâs what she would have wanted

GNR committee on 2/28 sent the Dix Edge Plan and the affordable housing rezoning back to council with alteration (taking out the part of the land that was not going to be easily developed)
Z-72-21 was also sent back to council without alteration.
Didnât see this anywhere - the Maywood mega-rezoning hearing will continue on 5/2

Yep - ongoing discussions of setbacks, usage and community benefits. More conditions coming before it finds approval. Thinking about Dreamville this past weekend, itâs easy to envision a hotel or two integrated into mixed use over here. Hope the discussions progress to a good outcome for the adjacent neighbors that allows this to proceed.
I feel like this mightâve been discussed already, but has there been any announcement of what Trophy on Maywood would do if this all gets redeveloped?
I believe they own it (or are partners in owning it), so the upzoning I suppose would give them options to redevelop down the road or leave as is as they see fitâŚHavenât been to the newer event space but they have bolstered their âofferingâ out there, so likely a long term play if any changes. Theyâve proven theyâll redux some concepts - BusyBeeâ>Young Hearts, so options probably are why theyâre even a part of the rezoningâŚ
Iâve been meaning to report this for a number of days. The maywood theater Marquis sign mentions that âsomething evil is brewingâ.
Anyone have any ideas what theyâre planning?
Come onnnn collab with Evil Twin!
Makes sense. Thanks. They do indeed seem pretty good at expanding, adapting, etc. so wasnât too worried. I just like the place after going to Farmers Market, so hope it sticks around the area in some way or another.
Ideally a brewery / music venue!!! Gahh that would actually kill in that location
And make up for the loss of The Maywood (music venue)
So, the marquee no longer shouts out to that killer Covid Cooper ?
Itâd be great to see this venue come backâŚ
Maywood mega-rezoning approved! Thanks Jane Harrison?

After removing the only affordable housing component.
No votes by Jones / Black on this.
While not a landslide for affordability, conditions do submit to 1% of units (30) OR make a per units donation to city fund ($40K) / unit ($1.2 MM total). Bunch of other set-backs and infrastructure commitments here. Seems the Council of Conditions may be the appropriate monikerâŚ
Harrison and Patton seem to be measured in their approach. Black and Jones are straight up showing their true colors and Iâm not thrilled about it.
