Almost gone. This area of New Bern is going to look very different soon.

I wonder how long it’s going to look like a mud patch, tbh. I hope they find something to do with it while plans form for what actually ends up here.

Anybody have connections to the working group they formed? I think they posted here once looking for input, but haven’t heard much since. Maybe I should check to see if the city has a mailing list topic for it.

If any of Raleigh’s history is to be considered: see you in 10, maybe 15 years! LOL

See: South St. pit, dilapidated N&O building/lot, Wilmington St gravel lot between PNC and Skyhouse, old Goodnights destroyed building (now a pit), grass field on Martin x Dawson where the apartment tower I mean condos are definitely 100% going to be built any day now!!! The list goes on.

Each one of those things bothers me every day.

I can only hope the investment in BRT right next door will put a bit more weight behind it, but I’m bracing for nothing anyway.

The working group has meeting minutes posted, but the January 2026 one is missing. Former DMV Site Working Group | Raleighnc.gov

Also, I got several notifications about a community basketball tournament on the lot this summer, but can seem to find them. Maybe someone else kept the details on that.

I know it probably has been mentioned but who bought the NC DMV site?

The city of Raleigh unfortunately

Sheeeit, we even sure about that? Is the city sure about that? Ask the Moore Sq “affordable” housing tower

Stolen neighborhoods! Thank God for oppression. Colonialism is back baby!!! Let’s do it. Affordable housing is for 3/5s human beings we dont need that!!! I would never help thy neighbor.

I haven’t turned on the news lately, but please inform us how the demolition of an aging government building that was purchased by the city for affordable housing, has anything to do with colonialism or oppression.

Boring is either referring to that, or my comment about the Moore Sq “affordable” housing tower - which was literally a dig at the city for not having their ducks in a row with that land and thus will more than likely not be building “affordable” housing there, as the costs of that land will likely rise as they actually begin to secure it lmao

Boring might not have the best eye for nuance… certainly not with that comment and the “3/5s human beings” reference :grimacing: … jesus dude lmao

I just liked the way you can see this massive heap of rubble through the open doors, felt like taking a picture.

Wow I’m sure it’s super necessary to do all these studies. How about they just build as much housing as it is cost effective to build? We can save millions if we speed up these timelines they drag everything out as the price increases 5X
