It’s going to be interesting to see how the other two towers and the Nexus would’ve fit into this view. Not to mention the RUSBus tower and maybe 121 Fayetteville. I kind of like this multi-node tower groupings of downtown.
Hopefully COVID hasn’t totally shelved all of these.
Nice picture. Where was this taken from?
From atop the short office buildings at North Hills
Nice, our Husky building breaks the tree line!
Raleigh has a building ‘fatness’ problem. I’d suggest requiring anything over 8 floors to be x amount taller than it is wide for at least 3/4ths of its height, but I know some people would be upset because “nobody would build downtown if we required them to build things that looked good”, also “muh regulations”. Get over it. I’d cut back parking requirements and end height restrictions calm down.
There are no height restrictions anymore but I get what you’re saying
Damn, these photos are excellent! The natural light is so warm and crispy in these, well done!
Tear that SOB down, burn it, not allowed, ok, just kidding
i hope that it was carved out of that big oak that they took down a few months ago
You’re in luck, because it was!
The City says it’s just a temporary installation, but they’ve already given it a name—Berkeley the Squirrel, a nod to the restaurant across the street.
Artist Corey Lancaster was commissioned by the City of Raleigh to carve the newest Nash Square squirrel from a 90 foot willow large oak that was removed from the park in 2019. Often referred to as the Berkeley Oak, the 85 inch tree was thought to be about 120 years old, but age and disease were starting to cause the tree to lose limbs during storms. The tree was known as being the widest tree in downtown Raleigh and for how its roots came over the sidewalk on Martin Street, where it stood opposite The Berkeley Café.

I love stuff like this. Cool.
I think that we have our newest city mascot! LOVE IT!!!
This is fantastic! Thanks for finding and sharing! I was so sad to see that tree come down, but it makes me super happy that it was repurposed and given new life as Berkeley the Squirrel.
