I think you may think that until you actually had the job. Catch the tiger by the tail so to speak. Maybe a smaller local government? Yeah. But the City of Raleigh. Where not only do you answer to every single Council member (yes, they are your all your Bosses) but also to the 516,807 citizens of the City of Raleigh who also pay taxes and they too are in a round about way your bosses too. High dollar, high stress. Dream job? Maybe. $150K No fricking way. Not when the buck stops with you. And every decision, every mistake, every mad “customer” all comes right down on top of you. And yes it is an exciting career. But you will earn every last dollar.. We wouldn’t want a bunch of two bits running the City. Is it worth over $300k? You tell me. Rant over.
There is always room for improvement, and Raleigh is no exception. Many things could be better, including some of the specifics pointed out in this thread.
That being said, I think this is one of the better run cities in the country. Zoom out and look at the big picture. Our city is fiscally responsible, has strong credit, has a good economy, has relatively low crime, and has nice parks, and our taxes are lower than many peer cities.
It seems like our city leadership does a great job while making salaries that are on par with other cities.
Benson is looking for someone.
Big trouble in little (pop. <4K) Benson.
EDIT: Town Manager pay range is listed as being $75K to $125K.
Never a dull moment…
This is sort of near Trophy Maywood
Never bring an axe to a gunfight
“A captain on scene tells ABC11 that the two men living in an encampment nearby got into an argument. The two continued arguing with that argument continuing onto Summit Ave. At some point, investigators believe one man began attacking the other with an ax.”
All of this would go away if these people had their own 1-bedroom apartment.
Not surprised as 401/South Saunders has been a vagrant shitshow for a long time. Hoping DTS and the BRT finally cleans it up.
Not from what I’ve read
Well congratulations to these two shitheads for the likely clearing-out of their encampment and everyone else that was staying there. I’d wager the police will go in and force everyone out now that there’s been an AXE ATTACK resulting from it. 2 bad apples…
How can WRAL’s reporting on this be so different from what actually occurred, it makes me question everything they report now:
" Broadcastify traffic indicates two men were shooting at each other and someone was shot in the shoulder, but that information has not been confirmed by police. WRAL News is working to learn if anyone was injured."
Police respond to shooting in Raleigh neighborhood :: WRAL.com
Unfortunately it sounds like that guy passed away from this, WRAL updated their reporting to make the story accurate this time. The homeowner who pulled the trigger will not be charged either. Crazy chain of events.
Police: Fatal Raleigh shooting began as argument, ended when witness intervened :: WRAL.com
Crazed vagrant would-be-axe-murderer gets ticket punched by nearby homeowner who faces no charges after saving other man’s life… idk, sounds more fortunate than unfortunate, to me.
The INDY just put out an article on this exact site. By the location, I believe the folks may have spilled out of the other camp across S Wilmington as the event occurred just west.
While it was really interesting to read about the community, I fear that publishing the story will lead to its downfall.
