I’ve seen more than enough discussion around this from non-troll accounts on other social platforms. Considering what the user said and how it was said, I do not think the probability that it’s a troll account is high.
I do agree with the former statement the user said about downtown Raleigh, that it’s much safer than the public seems to think it is. But to follow that up with a statement that contradicts its own logic is worrisome.

I’m not the one spinning a narrative here. You claimed to be offended by propaganda and exaggeration while also promoting propaganda and exaggeration. No, there was no lynching that took place in the back of Whiskey Kitchen.
The truth has already come to light. If you’d be so kind as to stop using this young man’s death to promote your propaganda and exaggeration, like his family has asked you and everyone else that perpetuates this lie, we’d all really appreciate it.
Take it from someone that’s had a family member take their own life. I have zero patience for your bullshit and you’re actively making it more difficult and traumatic for his family.

There’s no way this is serious. Who thinks this is a good idea? Who do they honestly think will attend this meeting? The teens without supervision carrying guns?

I’d really like Raleigh City Council and City leadership to explain why the youth curfew discussion appears to have been dropped after the urgency we saw following July 4.
This summer included repeated reports of juvenile-related disturbances, vandalism, large gatherings, arrests, and serious violence. I also experienced it personally when my own house was vandalized by young people throwing rocks. When I spoke with an officer, I was told to “make sure I have my concealed” and that they had very little enforcement capability. .
That is an appalling thing for a homeowner to hear.
My concern is that this feels very similar to the City’s approach to Moore Square: a reluctance to use stronger enforcement tools until conditions deteriorate to the point that much more significant intervention becomes unavoidable.
A curfew may not have been the perfect solution, but it was at least an additional tool. If Council reviewed evidence and decided it was ineffective or inappropriate, then explain that clearly.
More importantly, what is replacing it?
What enforcement tools are officers supposed to use when juveniles are repeatedly vandalizing property, trespassing, or when another massive social-media-driven gathering develops?
Residents deserve more than allowing the urgency to fade until the next major incident forces everyone to have the same conversation again.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have this conversation with teenagers about the issue. Teenagers are much more likely to be on the pulse about what is going on with their peers from rumors at school or social media, even if they were not directly involved.
HOWEVER, this can’t be the only thing to come out of this. It needs to be just 1 part of a bigger plan to address the issue

Yes, I think having conversations is fine, but also this seems a bit performative on the part of the City and/or Police. They KNOW the issues they are dealing with and trying to appease the general population with a light approach as to not disrupt during election season. The general population has no idea what a lot of these kids are into and it’s not uncommon for an officer to stop a very young teen with enough drugs to supply half of Wake County. The recent Moore Square sting confirmed a good bit of this. Let’s not take our foot of the gas and hold the City responsible for the safety of the general population that seems to be somewhat sheltered to the issues that surround them.

on this with you. I feel like this city is captive to this narrative that cops and enforcement are racist so we let everything go. It’s stupid and needs to be done. Full stop. If you’re a criminal, go to jail. I pay taxes to not have to deal with this directly. This is an abysmal response for RPD.

Yep, it’s those damn Hayes Barton teens always going around causing problems, said no one ever.
If they were actually serious, they would reach out to the teens in low-income neighborhoods who are also likely to be in single parent households. Of course the city is scared of being labeled “racist” and you would have someone like the NC Deadbeat pushing that narrative.
Summary of what I’ve gathered: We’ve tried nothing, and all out of ideas. City will hold a youth meeting in Five Points and hear from a group that is likely removed from many of the low income root cause issues that would actually prompt a real discussion. Kids are back in school, so let’s just punt to next year after elections.

Every single one of the people arrested on July 4th were above the age of 18. Every one. Young, but not applicable to the “youth curfew” - which also would’ve been ridiculous to actually attempt to enforce. It was a stupid, pointless idea, and I’m 100% fine with them dropping the charade, there.

Maybe you missed these news articles where a 15 year old, 16 year old and 17 year old, as well as 7 other teenagers were arrest. And not for simply being there, specifically with gun related charges and shooting people. This is a serious problem, that isn’t coming from Raleigh, the curfew would have deterred these teens from showing up in the first place coming from Goldsboro and other cities.

I did miss that, thanks. However… still not seeing how this curfew would actually be enforced. It would just give them the ability to add an extra charge after arrest, which would mean they did something that warranted arrest in the first place.
