Nothing planned on this stretch of 440 that would alter the median other than a hopefully a much needed resurfacing
I think the bushes died in this area because of the lack of space.
Itās the same size as further down so probably more just neglect. They should run some āadopt a roadā things to help fund beautification and keep up as they do for litter
North hills needs to build another 25+ story building but for hotel space, preferably a luxury brand (Hilton, Four Seasons, Intercontinental, or Ritz Carlton)
They were bigger bushes though, I think but thatās probably true.
Surface is horrible through here. Hoping they redo it soon but Iām guessing itāll wait until the widening projects are done.
I think getting another 5 star hotel or resort is a ways off with already having The Umsteadā¦especially with COVIDās impact on hospitality. If and when we get another, it makes more sense to have it at North Hills than downtown with the continued planned growth there.
a lot of them are built where itās multipurpose: office down below and Ritz up top. perhaps even condos too.
Man o Man, second city within a cityā¦
I saw this the other day and couldnāt get my phone out in time. Great vantage point driving north on McDowell!
I think with the way that building is now jutting out compared to the others, I almost wish it wasnāt just a rectangle and had some sort of angled feature / spire at the top like PNC. That would give the area a more actual skyline look.
You can clearly see the crane from Six Forks and Sawmill now. When I take the kidos to Carroll in the mornings, it is kinda weird to be driving through a suburban neighborhood and seeing the giant crane sticking up in the air. Then on Rowan, right before we turn into the school, there is a gap in the trees and you get a semi-skyline view (of North Hills) right behind a 1960s split level. It is an interesting juxtaposition IMO. But I like it!! Would be awesome to live in that house and have my own personal skyline view HAHA.
Can we also get a better pedestrian crossing at Lead Mine/Glenwood as well?
Itās unfortunate the only resurfacing of Glenwood Ave. is from 440 to 540 and none in the Glenwood South, 5 points, or even the Lassiter/St Marys/Anderson intersection that badly needs it.
But at least the whole section of the Wade 500 is getting resurfaced, Iām really looking forward to that road being complete, its one of my favorite in the city.
The Crabtree Creek greenway goes right underneath this mess of an intersection. There is access right on Century Drive and several access points on the south side of Glenwood as well. IMO, this is the safest way for a pedestrian or cyclist to cross Glenwood.
Agreed about Glenwood South, but I guess that would suck for all of the businesses just reopening after a tough year. Maybe after the rest of Glenwood is done?
I personally hate Wade Ave from Ridge Rd to Capital Blvd. I wish it was straightened, widened, and flattened with a speed limit of 45 mph. Itās my main route downtown, and between the people driving 30 mph and braking for every curve and the people who canāt stay in a lane, itās maddening. But I guess it will all look nice once the 440 interchanges are upgraded, and it is fresh new road all the way from there to Capital. Just looking forward to all of that being done.
I love that stretch of Wade. Itās like a rollercoaster! So much fun to drive at night especially.
Wade ave is definitely a thorn it the cities side but since itās all residential and very high income, I canāt see any upgrades being done ever pretty much. The best option is trying to better tie in Western Blvd some way some how.
Iāve toyed with the thought but canāt really come up with a good solution!
Wade Ave is going to get worse and worse as the region grows.
I actually terrified 2 friends from Massachusetts awhile back doing about 40 mph, just between the turns and narrow lanes. I was focused on the road, but they were focused on the cars next to us! If it can scare masshole drivers, thatās really saying something.
@atl_transplant Yeah, I really donāt see anything ever happening even if there was a desire by the people there to fix it. It would probably just be a decade of studies and another decade of construction. If Iām not in any hurry, I actually just take Hillsborough St the whole way into downtown. Slower, but at least some stuff to look atā¦
