That’s a cool vantage point! I hope you’re okay!!

YO!! I hope you got the license plate and reported a hit and run. Been seeing too many accounts of aggressive drivers towards cyclists. We need to be MORE bike friendly in this city, not less. This upsets me to read, I hope you aren’t injured.

She stopped. Said she didn’t see me - basically I was in the bike lane and she made a right turn where I was riding and pushed me over. Thankfully she was going very slowly at the time. She was nice - her husband (I assume) was not (we had words), but there were plenty of witnesses so if I wanted to make a stink about it I could’ve. Since I was fine except that the hand that I landed on is bruised and swollen, I just left after the argument… On the bright side, she will never do that again, so that’s the good thing.

At least she stopped. What words could her husband possibly have besides “oh my god I am so sorry this happened, we clearly need to pay better attention when we are driving our 2 ton mobile weapon” ??? Glad you’re ok besides the bruised hand, regardless.

Two wheels are my life, but I’m not putting my life in someone else’s hands. Unless its a scooter or protected bike lane, I’m not doing it, I know too many people who have passed away or were permanently injured.

The passing of Nicky Hayden basically put an immediate end to causal bike rides anywhere for me.

Glad you are OK. Did the guy try to blame you?

With decades of road and Mtn biking experience, I am confident in my cycling skills. But I realize all it takes is one asshole, or a non-asshole not paying attention and you are going down. If I am riding in traffic, I always have the mindset that I am invisible to drivers and ride extra defensively.

And most bike lanes around here are a joke. I give the city props for making an attempt. But if there are not cars or leaf piles in them, there is typically debris like sticks or broken glass etc in them. And as in you case, the drivers ignore them.

Just a word of warning: I had a similar accident years ago (like 20). Injuries seemed minor at the time, but I ended up having chronic pain in my left wrist for about 10 years. I should have seen a doctor and notified their insurance company. Just a thought. Also, as others asked, what was the husband upset about?

Same. Advent of cellphones has made road riding so much riskier, unfortunately.

Well at first, the woman jumped out of the truck and her husband came running down the driveway to see if I was ok. I was shaken and frankly, angry, so started telling the woman that she needs to pay attention where she’s going, doesn’t she see the bike lane, etc. I think that set her husband off - like he wanted to defend her, which is sort of understandable. So then I was told she had the right of way, didn’t I see her signaling, etc and so when the blame was shifting to me, it escalated. I was told that if I don’t need their offers of help, to leave and that I was blocking traffic. I was shaken, but at least one guy who drove by also yelled at them that I had the right of way. I’m sure someone has video of it on their home cameras. I agree with what others have said about having to cycle in a defensive manner. Normally I would not be cycling at a time of day when people are picking up kids from school for this reason. It was just an off day for me from a scheduling perspective.

So this was in front of her house and she didn’t know there was a bike lane?

Yeah, and that was built pre-2009. It’s a good example of pretty much the highest density you can achieve without structured parking. Morrisville’s zoning code has a pretty remarkable array of allowed housing types, BUT they’ve hardly been mapped anywhere so far – since they can’t really decide where their “downtown” is. This looks like a solid start.

Yes, this is definitely true. They have been studying another downtown-ish node near the new library for several years and are preparing to get it off the ground. They had a RFP recently, and three developers responded, but I don’t believe a winner has been chosen yet.

I also think a third one, in the area near where Morrisville Parkway crosses the RR tracks, would be good as well. Plenty of growth and plenty of demand to make it all pencil out over the course of the next 10-20 years.

Aren’t they getting sued right and left?

Yes, including by Wake County I believe.

Don’t think I saw this one either yet but looks like the Walter is officially topped out. This was on the Kane LinkedIn page.

Rezoning request with the city for 4 parcels in the Main district and Lassiter district of North Hills. Two 40 story rezones, one 30 story, and one 12.

Just when you thought a lot was happening, here comes even more!
