Raleigh-area Mall / Life-Style Center / RTP Redevelopments

If this ends up like the renderings I’m really looking forward to it.

Though we’re not in DTR, the brand new building my company moved into in Wade Park does not have access to a locker room or showers. There are bike racks outdoors and in the parking garage tho. It really is a shame since we can walk to access the greenway from our building.

You can use the hose outside my house down the street…

All that foliage will take at least 10 years to look like the render hahahaha

Unless they spend more money and move in medium to large trees from other areas, which is very unlike but definitely possible.

This is how I interpret that article with the site rendering…

Thanks for this! Because that article was all over the place order wise :joy:

At least the plaza in the middle isn’t just another car road. I visited the Fenton and even their main street was just another car oriented street. What a joke.

I was just coming to post that:
https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2022/06/23/kane-realty-in-talks-to-buy-crabtree-mall.html

Just a rumor at this point, but “several sources” say Kane is in advanced talks to buy the mall. Assessed property value is almost $400 million.

Property is already zoned for 12 story mixed use.

Or just keep existing trees instead of clear cutting everything. But they probably won’t.

Kane expanding his midtown empire….

Cost of that would be nearly impossible.

Couple reasons, would be impossible to grade for the buildings you need (cheaply at least)

All the soil disturbance from building would likely harm the trees to death.

Seconded. Some oaks will die just from removing smaller trees around it. It disrupts the root ecosystem and changes amount of sunlight.

It would be a major pickup for him.

Somewhat funny, I saw a report earlier that the Triangle Area malls actually are doing very well occupancy wise and it increased even more last year.

I wonder what his plans will be. Maybe to just flip it inside out and add a bunch of housing too? I think the demand in the Triangle for “mall stores” is still quite strong since we’re down to just three typical malls.

We’re talking about Kane so what if he somehow incorporated Crabtree Creek into some sort of interior canal?! :eyes:

It’s an odd shape of land so he’s really going to have to get creative to make something work.

Hope he buys the PNC parking lots next.

I think the Triangle actually ended up under-malled for its size as the 2008 recession absolutely killed demand for major retail just as the region was exploding. The exact opposite of so many metro areas.

Southpoint, Crabtree, and North Hills all do well, and it seems TTC is busy enough. Getting rid of Cary Towne and Northgate kinda right-sized the retail market around here.

TTC is sad. Saks owns their building, they should take a loss and sell it. Way out of place with the surroundings.

Yeah. It’s a shame though, as there some very mature trees in that area. And it will take decades to look like those renderings.

I’d hate to see that mall get demolished aside from it flooding, that’s what they need to fix.
