If this is in regards to Crabtree, I find it super surprising. Hotels are popping up all around the mall, and the area is in need of more higher-end brands. If the Westin even gets going, I could see something like Omni coming in and being part of this development. I mean, it’s the busiest mall in the region, it’s bound to have some cache.

It is crazy to me that we don’t already have a Westin. I would love to see any high end brands like W, Renaissance, Ritz Carlton, JW Marriott, St Regis, Waldorf, etc

I know these brands are all over the place but I’m just really excited for the potential of any nice high end anything!

Well, there’s already a Renaissance in Raleigh, but it’s not downtown; it’s at North Hills.

It’s going to be tough to get the ultra-luxury brands to the market. These are your Ritz-Carltons, Four Seasons, St. Regis, Waldorf.

However, I do see it possible for another 4-star hotel to come to the city. Currently there are 2 - Renaissance North Hills, and supposedly the Marriott downtown (I’m skeptical of that). However, i could definitely see an Omni, or a Hyatt, or Westin come to downtown. The market is right for them, but the need for them has to be justified. There’s a reason AC hotels and Moxy hotels are the mid-luxury hotels booming at the moment. Same with Tru, Home2, and Canopy. There’s a lot of investment needed in hotels over 300 rooms, so we are in a tough spot there.

I think that the challenge for Raleigh is the sort of “industry” that is the core of the city. State government isn’t going to support luxury brands, and neither will NC State. Also, with tech being the main employer of large scale private industry downtown (and working in tech myself), I can tell you that it doesn’t typically support luxury brands either.

The ratio of Marriot vs. Hilton hotels is like 10/2 and it’s a shame. We could at least get one 5 star Hilton like jeez

AAP Tower I think has topped out, if you notice on the wooden part straight up the building (you can’t see it in this picture) the listed the floor numbers. They listed up to 21 skipping floor 13.

The Walter better have a 5 star hotel If it doesn’t I’m going to be unimpressed and very disappointed
