The crane in brier creek behind the best buy… looks nice but I have a few more years before moving in
WalkUPs are, by definition, places that get institutional-scale real estate investment, as the report draws on commercial real estate data that are generally only collected from such buildings. While there’s no fixed definition of that, it typically means buildings over 100,000 sq. ft. So no, Five Points and Wendell don’t quite count. Cameron Village is close enough to Hillsborough Street that it’s could be thought of as a single submarket – e.g., the report counts University Village as part of the UW/U-District WalkUP.
(Incidentally, one of the former co-authors of the WalkUP report, who really sharpened the methodology, got her PhD at UNC.)
Not this is relevant at all but I just saw the Brier Creek Best Buy is closing.
Where did you hear this?
Everyone here should think about getting on City-Data as well. I’ve had an account on it since Bush was president. You can go to battle with all the Charlotte people in the North Carolina forum, or just hang out in the Triangle forum.
I find it confusing. I’ll probably figure it out if I use it more.
This site is waaaaay better than city data, or urban planet for that matter. Charlotte urban planet is really active, but they don’t have a site like this. Just another reason Raleigh is better than charlotte.
This is the local forum. Support your local DT forum!
Charlotte posters regularly bash/belittle/diminish Raleigh on city-data, and I’m one of the folks who pushes back. They often use our downtown as a their vehicle to talking shit toward Raleigh.
Martin Marietta moves HQ to Stunning Mall Location
Lol I played with the title a bit from the original story.
They are moving from their north Raleigh location just off I-440 to the new Glenlake Seven building behind Crabtree Valley Mall in 2021. They’re taking all 5 floors / 125K sqft.
It’s part of a office park behind the mall maintained by Highwoods Properties.
Close to plenty of trees and… a mall (which has an Apple store!)

At least they stayed in Raleigh. Some had mentioned them as a candidate for a downtown move.
I can see that building when I visit my parents - from their upstairs windows. I almost took a photo over Thanksgiving, next time I am home I will.
Mmmhhmmm hauled off quite a bit of dirt
Wait, what happen to the mud baths? I thought this was going to be the center piece of the new NH spa!!
They are just removing dirt so can bring in that special “Carolina Red” mud for it’s special benefits. Had to make it deeper being the best benefits are only received when you are standing upright up to neck.
Has been been any talk of condos in any of the future buildings to the east of six forks or in the mall redevelopment to the west?
O/U on the number of weeks until the crane is set up?
DeWitt Carolina’s Midtown Exchange is supposed to include a condo component. Will be interested if they begin clearing that property shortly. I don’t believe any of Kane’s projects include condos, even on the mall side where the JC Penney is getting demolished. I believe it’s all multi-family apartments (Buildings V and W). The plans just say “residential” so it’s possible but condos are generally harder to finance.
Kane and Condos don’t mix. Like oil and water.
