Raleigh Elections and Council Overall

Hi everyone :waving_hand:. It’s not letting me respond in the Raleigh politics thread so I figured this one was close enough.

I just wanted to jump back on here to thank you all for your support and engagement.

I read some comments on the other thread and wanted to let you all know that I was not planning to run for City Council again after 2024, and I always knew this would be my final term on City Council. I’m very burned out and need a break. I struggled to decide if I would run for the County seat, but ultimately decided to try because I felt my lived and learned experience could be helpful, several former Counry Commissioners encouraged me to do it, and I didn’t want to regret letting an opportunity pass by. I believe I could’ve done a great job. While I’m disappointed with the outcome, I’m proud Raleigh voters stuck with me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to gain enough support in Western Wake, particularly Cary, Apex, Fuquay which are becoming a much larger voting bloc. Now I know where to focus if I decide to run again.

I’m also sorry if I’ve seemed less engaged this year. Finishing a race in 2024 and then turning around to run another one in 2025, while still working fulltime and serving in office, is very difficult.

Now, I’m focused on finishing my term strong and taking a break in 2027. I plan to stay engaged and involved with issues I care about, and I will likely run again for office in the future if the right opportunity arises.
