TBH I quite like Patton and Harrison as councilors. Patton is a great advocate for the bus system, and while Harrison is somewhat frequently a “no” vote on rezoning, I find that her reasoning is usually genuine and not just anti-growth for the sake of being anti-growth (or “preserving neighborhood character,” or whatever).

As someone who owns property downtown in Harrison’s district, I have come to a personal conclusion that she seems to act with her votes in such a way as to not piss off Livable Raleigh while navigating having to also represent the resident-heavy west side of downtown. So far, her votes haven’t necessarily been needed to pass some of the rezoning that many of us downtown want. She has been able to vote no and still see the downtown rezonings pass. Think Susan Collins in the Senate.

That’s a reasonable take. She caters to them a bit more than I would like but I typically find her arguments more compelling than Councilor Jones. She’s also been a good advocate for active mobility around the city.

I don’t have a personal problem with Jane Harrison. She seems like a reasonable adult. But a vote the wrong way is still wrong. Same with Susan Collins letting Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. Or all the “reasonable” Republicans in the General Assembly who voted for crap like the bathroom bill. I’d prefer a candidate who votes the way I’d like them to vote, when casting my vote.

The Stanley Cup showed up to the Council Meeting this afternoon. For those fortunate enough to be there, it was a rare opportunity to be in its presence in a non chaotic or crowded audience.

It was in the trunk of a car at Bond Bros after the win. It wasn’t chaotic or crowded, but maybe a little less impressive of a setting

I staffed the team’s arrival with the Cup from Vegas, and was surprised to learn they just… keep it in a road case in the back of an SUV. The gentleman who travels with the Cup as its handler is a nice fellow and has been doing it for years. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
