Raleigh Elections and Council Overall

I assume City Council just wants to be able to say they have had “public feedback” so it’s not all “done behind closed doors,” as they’ve been accused of doing. They’ll probably just sit there politely listening to people being outraged and upset, as they do.

Because all the stuff Livavle Raleigh bitches about makes no sense.

They’re persistent if nothing else…

Who knows the truth, but I heard they were still under 2,000 signatures and need 14,000.

I was wondering how they were doing. Sounds like not too well. I figure just about anyone that is eager to sign the petition would have done so already. Sure they might get a few more. But sounds like this effort is dead in the water.

That number was on some nextdoor thread so take it for what it’s worth.

MAJOR PROPS to @Raleighite for calling out the Downtown Core as a potential district in consideration of the new council seat! Fantastic comment, Travis!

This isn’t exactly for Raleigh, yet, but Wake County’s county commissioner districts will be changed around. Here are the proposed changes; unlike Raleigh’s City Council, the county will keep the same number of voting districts:

The changes make it so that all districts are equally divided to about 160k residents each. Here’s what that means ITB, where the thick, maroon lines outline the new districts:

If you (don’t) like it, you can tell the county that online by Nov. 1, or go to one of several in-person hearing sessions.

He has my full support !

Let’s go Jonathan! I have been so pleased with his work on council (e.g., missing middle housing, our new non-discrimination ordinance, ADUs, and renter notification instead of just property owners)!

Agreed, he really seems to follow through on his campaign promises. He’s been such a strong advocate for smart, effective growth.

Johnathan and Nicole have my vote regardless of anything else. I love our At-Large representation!

The rest are up for consideration, IMO. I will have to say though, I’ll need to see a really strong candidate for Mayor to take my chances with anyone else. Looking forward to seeing who all jumps in the race.

So, somehow I got on Liveable Raleigh’s mailing list (maybe from that one time I emailed Council about 2 years ago and Stef Mendell replied? I dunno, this is the first one I’ve ever gotten :man_shrugging:) and they sent an update letter:

(I would paste the text but don’t want to give them any more of a platform than they already have. Read it at the link above.)

They’re now looking to host recall signing events, and state that they will look soon at how many signatures they have toward their goal of 14,000 (why is this number not available already?).

Because they are no where close and if they said that people would lose their gumption to go sign it, IMO.

Mmmhmm. If there was anything close to 14k die hard anti-MABs put there, the recall signs would be EVERYWHERE

They’ve been hosting these for months.
It’s sad.

Election results from around Wake County, except Raleigh and Cary:
