Oh my gosh, you’re right! I ride by this like three or four times a week heading home from the bus stop across from Chargrill!

Regarding district D CC election
I personally know Jenn Truman through various common interests, and she is a true ally to vote into the CC. A licensed architect with a degree in civil engineering, a nuanced urbanist, and an active citizen with years of experience being involved in local politics as an activist fighting for ADUs, CDUs, walkability, infrastructure equity, transit, and pretty much everything we care about.

Check her out, and if you live in D, come to a fundraiser/greet event this Saturday at Mary Bell Pate park

I wasn’t sure if that was public yet or not so I back pedaled haha…

@ralboi919 I’ll answer by saying what I believe she would say she supports:

  • walkable cities
  • increases in residential density
  • TOD and safe bike/ped access to future BRT
  • CDUs and other “gentle densification”
  • parks, greenways, and city amenities for all residents and neighborhoods

FWIW Forte posted about running at-large on her radio program’s Facebook back in May.

I’ve been updating this list of candidates since April (if that is helpful)

Pretty sure she’s on the Raleigh Transit Authority board of advisors as well. They post all their meetings on YouTube, so if you want to hear her talk about transit sometime, that might be a good resource.

Patrick Buffkin not running for re-election to City Council: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article262203382.html#storylink=mainstage_card4

He lost the Democratic primary for NC Senate District 13 last month, and cited that he would like to spend more time with his family as reasons for not running.

I hadn’t a clue why he thought running for STATE SENATE after, what, 2 years (?) on the City Council was going to be successful for him. Dumb move.

Also kind of funny that he wants to spend more time with his family so he can’t be a part time city councilor, but he would’ve had no problem being a state senator. I think he just wanted a stepping stone to higher office, which is fine, but let’s not pretend.

Well, we had a president elected with a big zero on his political resume, so there’s that.
Also, I think that you’d be surprised if you audited the US Congress and discovered how many members had no political experience at all.

The timeline is a little tight, not that it matters too much, but he announced his Senate campaign on March 1, and with his statement today about not running for re-election, he announced he’s expecting his first child in September. It’s possible when he announced his run for NC Senate, he was not yet aware that they were expecting, but continued to run after finding out. After his loss, he may have decided it is just best to focus on his soon-to-be newborn instead of being an elected official. Trying to be positive and giving him the benefit of the doubt.
