Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

Yup the Bills owners said they’d “consider” moving out of Buffalo if they couldn’t get the insane amount of public funding they were asking for their new stadium.

Said stadium is currently under construction across the street from the old Ralph - in Orchard Park, just outside Buffalo. (They got their tax $$, and they never actually had any intentions to move lmao)

Brewers are not going to leave. This is 100% a negotiation tactic. There is a way better shot of landing Tampa than Milwaukee, but even then, I think Raleigh’s best shot continues to be expansion.

The Brewers, despite being one of the smallest overall markets, are in the middle of the pack when it comes to revenue and always leads ‘per capita attendance’. The market is proven and thriving. There is no way they leave IMO.

As for @Yimbyforlife 's rant about leaders doing nothing to get baseball, I know for a fact that’s not the case. For those who are hoping that NC/Raleigh lands an MLB team, I think patience is key right now. I said it a month ago and I’ll say it again, the right people are in the right places and there is positive momentum.

Im want Raleigh specifically what are Triangle leaders doing you know the enemy may want to get involved. Are the right people in Raleigh want us not that other NC city to get it, us only.

Hey Lou, Do you think that The Carolina MudCats will move to Wilson? If they do, I would like to see The Atlantic League come to Zebulon.

Yes I think they will be moving to Wilson. I’ve heard from 2 sources recently that it’s very likely. So yes, I think Atlantic League would make sense, seeing as Zebulon might have an open field to use pretty soon.

Just had a thought… what if instead of major or minor league baseball, Raleigh went for a Bananaball expansion team?!

Basically expand what Savannah Bananas are doing with a “two” team setup here at a new ~10,000 seat stadium at the Cargill site. Could have Raleigh Reapers and Swingin Squirrels. So it would be a 4-team league with the Bananas & Party Animals that could rotate and play each other in Bananaball.

WTF is banana ball?

Think Harlem Globetrotters for baseball.

Not a bad consolation prize if expansion happened and we didn’t get chosen, but I think it’s MLB or bust for the Cargill/DT South sites. No other version of baseball could make enough money to justify what that land would cost to build a stadium.

Just my opinion, but I think that Ting Park setup in Holly Springs would be a great venue.

Savannah Bananas

Rules for “Banana Ball” are within.

There’s an amateur team that shares Ting Park with the Salamanders called the South Wake Shakes. Think they’d be perfect for some sort of opponent for ‘Banana Ball’ out at Ting Park.

I love the Savannah Bananas! If you don’t know about them, search on YouTube or Instagram.

The “enemy?” Lol. You’re really in there… Does seem to be less of a desire for it there. Charlotte seems to have its hands full with the Panthers. I just want a downtown stadium for Raleigh. Baseball, soccer, or Banana ball. Anywhere but OTB.

Until Raleigh has better transit I don’t actually see that many positives for a downtown arena. I’m not interested in turning several blocks of downtown into parking decks to support an arena which would in all likelihood be a deadzone.

It’s not like you can see the skyline in a hockey stadium with a closed roof anyway.

Downtown South or North Hills could work though. It would be closer to downtown and in an urban neighborhood that has a large population right there. There’s enough empty land to eat decks day and night without disrupting any extant urban fabric.

I think a North Hills stadium or arena would be a tremendous fail, personally.

It’s is on a BRT and potentially a I mean there a railroad not far there can be a possible train line there. That’s if the clueless folks at GoTriangle get there act together.

Hurricanes, NCSU, Centennial authority to make an “historic announcement” tomorrow.

It’s suggested this will include:

  • Hurricanes Arena Lease Extension
  • PNC Arena renovation
  • PNC Arena & Carter-Finley site redevelopment
  • Contract with city through 2099 (meaning they cannot leave for the next 76 years without major repercussions)

Wow. Through 2099! Thats some serious commitment if true.

Site redevelopment is still the most exciting potential part of this for me.

It’s also we could host major events like the Republican and Democratic National conventions and WrestleMania, Taylor Swift, NHL draft cause this development will spur more hotels along that corridor all the way to downtown and with Hillsborough having tracks nearby a possible commuter rail is there. Pen Marc and Downtown South have rail near there too.
