Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

I guess you could walk through the cross country course, but it’s not exactly a fun welcoming walk for an evening game. Once most people are back in their car, they’re just going to head home.

The perception is still that you have to walk through the woods 20 minutes to get there. If they created a clear path that was well lit and signed, then maybe the perception would change.

But none of this changes that when you get to the stadium you can enjoy one of 2 overpriced concession stands or food trucks.

Bulldoze one of the end sections and turn it into a full walk up bar area. Make the stadium actually have SOMETHING.

Well, speaking of the Courage, supposedly the former co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks is close to acquiring 60% of the team at a $108m valuation. I think you could read this two ways - they will be bought and then moved somewhere else or Malik needed a lot more financing to do anything that he wanted to do with the team (like move to DTS or similar).

I’m hoping that the Dundon_Dev group looks to spots like Mission Ballroom (3800) in Denver or the Salt Shed in Chicago (3600) for this venue - targeted capacity 4350 - and that they employ someone to aggressively book acts around the Red Hat opportunity.

Umm…the sign is crooked and the guys from Hangover left their bedsheet up there.

Mission Ballroom is excellent…it’s owned by AEG, which I believe is the group that committed to the Downtown South music venue.

If there’s some MLB thread I have muted, and this has already been posted, sorry to duplicate.

The interesting part of this is they mention they don’t know if they’d put a stadium downtown or in our current stadium district off Blue Ridge Rd.

Have they, or has anyone floated the idea of connecting the two places? I don’t know. I haven’t been out to Fenton.

Note the part about attendance…& how Malik has tried to address part of this with a downtown stadium…to no avail.

I think MLB is possible here but for corporate support, the Raleigh area has Advanced Auto Parts, Iqivia, and First Citizens bank all of them Fortune 500s meaning we have 3 in the area. Maybe Martin Marietta will join the list and be the 4th Fortune 500.

But Brian Warf said in an interview we may have to look outside of Raleigh’s corporate community for support and I disagree there are a lot of companies based in Raleigh that aren’t Fortune 500s but could well support the new team. I fought with Lou over this and whether we actually have government support. @Loup20

There is currently a new footbridge leading to a greenway and wide paths so that you can walk from one to the other. Also planned is the Trinity Rd connection which would provide better vehicle and pedestrian connectivity. Not sure when that will get built.

Look up The Anthem in D.C. - it’s one of the best gigantic indoor venues in the country.

Yep, another good one - they all have the ability to feel more intimate which is nice…
I wasn’t sure Dundon would drop $60 MM on the Leno_Venue though, which is reportedly what Anthem cost years back… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This will be a big deal. Lasry has sizable ambitions with most anything he does. He cashed out of bucks and made quite a bit of money. Cant tell if he has any NC ties if anyone know anything about that?

Respect to Malik for taking a couple swings with NCFC and Courage, I bet he ends up alright $$$ from this courage bet and purchase of those rights.
