Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

wral is not making things up (this time). abc11, news and observer and sports business journal are all reporting a new max capacity of 21,000

There are 3 different capacities: Hockey, Basketball, and Concerts. Some outlets are saying that concerts will reach 21,000 while basketball will be over 20,000 (around 20,400).

I’m just confused as to where they’re getting their numbers from.

The new basketball capacity of 20,450 is allegedly 663 more seats than before. Which assumes capacity is 19,787. Current capacity is 19,119, which was 19,500 the year before, and 19,722 the highest it’s been.

The new hockey capacity will be 19,606, with 694 new seats. That assumes the capacity used to be 18,912. The current capacity is 18,299, which used to be 18,700 last year.

So this math just isn’t mathing.

Could some of the difference be the number of standing room or bar seats they sell? + bunker suite seats and lounge area capacities increases. And I think some of the renovations are adding some bar seating along the top of the lower level as well?

“When you can tell a promoter you’ve got 21,000 seats, that puts you in a different conversation. It really helps to get you a second look for tours that might have overlooked Raleigh.”

With the new additions, the arena will be able to hold “about 21,000 for some concerts.”

Lenovo Center increasing seat capacity to close to 21,000 by fall

  • ABC11

be pretty scummy if they were advertising 20,400 as 21,000

It’s possible that renovations in the arena have slightly changed capacity from year to year. In the end, I think it’s not worth getting worked up about. In the end, there will be new configurations and amenities, and new numbers, and that will be that.

It’s possible that is the new capacity with SRO. They might’ve based it on previous capacity with SRO, or maybe if all suites are max capacity. Guess we’ll find out

I was surprised to see this big crane today going down Hillsborough Street near Dorton Arena and the roadwork there. Any idea what this parking deck is for?

I’m going to guess that it’s for cars. :face_blowing_a_kiss:

you kid but watch them end up calling it this.

let me introduce you to “address east end,” which in my personal theory was born of a template meant to be replaced by the actual address, a la “400h”

Looks like the well-behind-schedule view bar at the Lenny may be open for UNC v State on Tuesday.

Is “Lenovo 2.0” used anywhere else? I don’t think I’ve seen this and wasn’t sure if it’s referring the the updates as a whole, or the next round of updates.

It’s worth noting, when those seats go on sale, it will increase capacity by 235 seats.

Has anyone done a traffic study???
