Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

We also love their mascot Gritty. My wife follows his antics on Instagram. He’s hilarious :joy: Just love the mascot rivalry, honestly.

@Phil sorry you’re not enjoying the games the way I have been. I feel sorry for your sad times.

That’s a terrible opinion.

lol. I knew I was going to catch :poop: with that comment. That’s why I said unpopular opinion. just for me, if I want to see guys fighting, I would watch boxing or UFC.

And I do know it will never change in Hockey. And thats OK.

Hockey fighting is an older tradition than UFC though.

There has not yet been an actual fight in the current Flyers series although that might change if Nicolas Deslauriers (former Flyer) is added to tonight’s Canes roster.

Flyers did not think they were going to make the playoffs at the trade deadline so did their longtime “enforcer” a solid by letting him join a contending team for a seventh round draft pick in return.

The physicality we are seeing is stick hooks and holding to try to slow the Canes down to Flyers speed and a whole lot of after-the-whistle cross checks and other scuffles that are just not getting calls.

Officials have lost control of a few games and the players are policing on their own. The Florida series from previous seasons and some roster acquisitions have bolstered the former “Candy Canes” to a level where they can now match that tactic if necessary.

Hoping for a short series with no injuries and on to the next challenge.

The Carolina hurricanes swept the Philadelphia Flyers to close out the second round of the playoffs! They set an NHL record for the first team ever (in the modern 16 win format) to win the first 8 games in a row in the postseason!

How do we get the city buildings to light up red? We as a city did it a few years back and it was awesome. Would love to our downtown support the team again.

Mary- Ann e-mail me saying this is a great idea and that she can get this done in the final round.

That’s great but I’d love to see her also make it happen next round.

Thanks for reaching out to her, bummer she doesn’t want to get that in action now. But I’ll settle for the potential finals run. We really should have a campaign going to “light the city red”.

I’ve been turning my LED apartment lights red honor the Canes wins. My one small contribution

MAB is in on the action now. She’s a long time season ticket holder. I see her at most games because we’re in the same section.

Then we’re all in the same section

I’ll be straight up - it’s damn near SHAMEFUL that the skyline hasn’t lit up all RED for the Canes this playoffs… it’s their best playoffs run in as many years as I’ve lived in NC (18 years) and the city they call home can’t even be bothered to show some fanfare??? Someone explain this to me…

Agreed! This should be a no brainer, but we still can’t seem to figure it out. And not just DTR, but North Hills (and eventually DTS) as well. Turn the City red when our local teams win.

I would also like to see more visible support for the Canes. Maybe the city has gotten spoiled with them making it to the playoffs so much recently, and people just don’t get excited in the early rounds.

I remember when I was a kid, I visited Atlanta in the early 90’s during the Braves run, and there were signs and lights everywhere! It was so cool and it felt like it really united the city. Would love to see that here in Raleigh for the Canes! :hurricanes:
