Yeah I get that they have more games but my point is that a soccer stadium is more versatile than a baseball stadium given the field shape
Monster Jam is done at the Aās stadium. It was also done at the Giantās stadium years ago. I donāt know how much more versatile you can get lol. I actually wish they would move Monster Jam from PNC. I loved seeing Monster Jam at the Oakland Aās stadium. I never saw it at PNC because it looks lame on youtube.
Just imagine a NFL team moving to Raleigh and building a 73k+ seat stadium in Garner right outside of downtown. FYI Iām a Ravens fan.
Which NFL team would you love to see move to Raleigh? (Team most likely to move here or your favorite team
)
Yeah. The expansion should consider street activation elements. Singular purpose structures are so 20th century.
could a soccer stadium host ncaa field hockey and possibly some rugby stuff?
That would sure be a better fit then a baseball diamond.
and lacrosse along with footballā¦american football
With the news about NCFC not participating in the USL for 2021, I wonder if anything has changed about the plan. I imagine itās just to save money on wages and focus on the NWSL team, but now weāre only talking about 1 pro team playing in the stadium instead of 2.
For the doubters regarding āwhat kind of stadiumā is planned for DT South; read the article.
I have stated āit will be a soccer stadiumā¦periodā ad nauseamā¦I figured I would let you hear it directly from the developer.
Hold on, USL League One is the third tier of the US soccer system, though we used to be in the USL Championships (the 2nd tier). Since youād want a bigger, more (inter)nationally prominent team to sustain a larger fanbase (and therefore a bigger stadium), isnāt that the opposite direction of what weād want? Or am I missing something here?
Like Iām sure this press releaseās claim thatā¦
ā¦wouldnāt this just make it easier for other MLS teams to treat NCFC as a talent incubator, and poach off good players (rather than letting us make a name for ourselves)?
They can sugar coat it all they want, but it is a big downgrade.
Retrenchment is probably the correct term. Finances in the age of COVID is probably a tricky thing.
That they are āchoosingā to doā¦It is not being forced on the Club. They could move back up next near if they want. This is a āstrategic business decisionā
Like most people even know or care that there are these tiers in Soccer in America? basically the same as baseball. Nobody cares if its AAA or AA except the baseball puristsā¦Most people couldnāt name 2 players on the Bulls or the Mudcats teams.
MLS is effectively a pyramid scheme todayā¦hence why they gave Tepper a franchiseā¦because he had a big checkbook; not because it was a good market.
With virtually zero chance of any attendance revenue for the spring season why keep spending all that money? Soccer in America is a far cry from the NBA, NHL, MLB and obviously NFL.
So what is the reason for switching leagues?
Essentially to save money for now
Are you talking hypothetical or in real life?
Pro baseball stadiums currently or have hosted MLS teams (soccer), USL teams (Soccer), NFL teams (football). NCAA basketball games, concerts, lacross, rugby, Top Golf, movies in the park, monster truck rallies, etc, etc.
Soccer stadiums are too thin and short to host college football games. They canāt host baseball of any sort. So really, the things they can host are things that happen less frequently and do not fill up the stands.
The point is, a baseball stadium is the most versatile open air stadium based on the dimensions. You can host just about anything in it. However,r it makes no sense to build a baseball stadium with public funds if you donāt have a team ready to play in it that can fill the stands for a quarter of the year.
So no one is saying to just go and build a baseball stadium, weāre saying, go after MLB with the pitch that you have land for a stadium. See if investors bite and MLB is interested.
But the same goes for soccer. Donāt just go out and build a soccer stadium for two teams team that average 5k fans per game and only play a total of 30 some games all year. Because after they are done using it, you donāt have much precedence for filling an open air soccer stadium with other events.
Iām not being bias or lying to you. Just look around MLS. Go look at calendars for their stadiums (pre COVID). They were almost all pitched to the public as being multi-use stadiums and a good investment for the cities. Almost all of them sit vacant when soccer isnāt being played and that is an MLS stadium. Weāre talking USL right now.
Not sure why the most obvious, appealing option for the DTS arena hasnāt been mentioned yet: A velodrome! It would be perfect!
I do find it a little ironic that Raleigh used to have a downtown baseball stadium, given the discussions about bringing baseball here.
Image credited to USGS.A park is going there lol
That Major League Baseball in Raleigh so freakinā important!
