And employing a shit load of highly compensated people. And paying a lot of taxes.
Is Kane wealthy enough to pony up for a sports franchise yet? He’s the guy who’d do it, if anyone.
I don’t know but I no this, Downtown South Malik has no control over what tenant since Kane, is like Centiennel Authority of PNC, but its downtown south. If a billionaire trying to find a stadium to put an professional baseball, MLB Major League Baseball team in Raleigh and he goes to Kane for stadium modifications for Downtown South to refitted it for baseball, while keeping the soccer thing. Kane won’t budge he could charge him a big price to be tenant Professional baseball MLB Major League Baseball team in Raleigh, cause he could make millions even become a billionaire from having a professional baseball MLB Major League Baseball team in Raleigh as his tenant.
You do understand that Malik actually owns the land not Kane?
I would say he has a good bit of “control”.
Is there any concept / pipe dream …anything of substance as to where the MLB stadium would be if we were to get it other than retrofitting Downtown South? Hopefully not out by PNC Arena. I wish that arena was downtown.
I’d say all the things you mentioned Goodnights have built as not impacting a broad spectrum of society are the same things that could be said about Affordable Housing. Affordable housing doesnt help a broad spectrum, just those at the bottom. Goodnights have gotten a lot of infrastructure for those at the top. If there’s nothing like the 5 star hotel, golf communities, private schools, SAS, etc, then there’s no influx of more rich people to fund some of the dreams many on this forum want to see realized.
Not bashing affordable housing. Just saying helping those at the bottom and those at the top 1/2 or so are worthwhile components to helping grow the metro area and increase the quality of life for ALL of us, even if indirectly. Better quality of life → even more Top 3 lists for Raleigh/Durham and better shot at downtown development and sports franchises for a new stadium or downtown arena.
If the PNC Arena is replaced by a downtown one not likely there. Mayor Baldwin mentioned something about behind the convention center and I also believe there’s enough space there for a hockey stadium. A MLB stadium should be close to downtown as well.
Wow those are cool! Really would like the prison to be gone. Seems like such a waste of prime land right there. Or maybe even something stretching between Downtown and Downtown south to bridge the gap
Basically where red hat amphitheater is right now?
Yes, that land is expected to be part of the convention center expansion but who knows that will happen now.
Imagine the tailgating we’d have on S Harrington St!!!
and then play frogger crossing Dawson to get to the stadium. LOL
The NCAA announced that Cary will be the sole host of its men’s and women’s soccer championships this year! The championships usually end in December, but COVID made it so they’ll happen this year from Apr. 27 to May 17. Just like Indianapolis and March Madness, athletes will be restricted to their quarantine bubble once they’re here.
Apparently the Raleigh market is pretty good for soccer…
This still the case if if the new Downtown South stadium is built? I’ve never asked but how does Cary feel about the Courage and NCFC wanting Downtown South stadium? I guess that brings up the bigger question, will Cary become more or less associated with Raleigh as both cities mature and develop.
whispers *Raleigh would have been a better MLS Market than Charlotte
I’m sure they’ll buy their way into this niche as well. lol
Even though they don’t have any schools with good teams?
As a Chapel Hill resident, I already do. …so the future ain’t far! It’s just 20mi up I-40.
I’d be curious about what actual Cary residents think, though! If I had to guess, though, most of them probably wouldn’t care anyways, since they’re mainly (rich, sprawly suburb-loving) families who would be more self-focused and worried about traffic/inconvenience than city pride.
Yea Steve Malik let his guard down dm me if you really wanna know why king it’s not exactly Tepper. But how Malik oils be strengthened the bid by furthering talks with Canes Owner Tom Dundon.
