All these local breweries expanding into RDU makes me want to fly somewhere…

Drove past it going into rdu
Seems like they’re trying to steal some of the “waiting for grandma’s plane to land” market away from Sheetz.
RDU is (unsurprisingly) pushing back a lot of their expansion plans for the time being. With a huge shortfall in cash revenue, they’ve officially decided to focus more on reviving the flights that were axed the past few months and letting fliers feel more confident with their safety.
There’s only so much airports can do, though, if airlines are freaking people out by half-assing physical distancing guidelines. After all, the CEO of aircraft manufacturer Boeing thinks it might take three to five years before the airline industry can fully get back into its game.
You can even see that they have cut back on their landscape maintenance. Lots of tall weeds in areas that you would never see them before.
Bright side Delta is committed to Raleigh being a focus city.
Great to see them call out Raleigh specifically! Thanks for posting!
JetBlue is adding 5 new flights, include nonstop to LA:
Cancun, Montego Bay, and San Juan are supposed to be daily flights. I wonder if RDU will be able to sustain that level of service.
Nice if they did I know Frontier had a hard time filling those San Diego flights.
If there is still covid related closings of indoor gathering and entertainment venues, then I suppose that there will be lots of folks looking to go somewhere warm in the Winter where people can at least be outside.
I think JetBlue’s product is a good fit for RDU. Frontier currently does RDU-SJU, but not daily. I can see JetBlue knocking them off that route. Same with Cancun, which will now have five airlines flying the route, albeit not all are daily.
RDU is #8 among large airports for passenger satisfaction this year. Slight dip from #5 last year, but two years in a row in the top 10 is great.

That’s really cool! I’m looking forward to that skyline being very quickly outdated, too.
Well if Durham can claim they are home of RTP because their city limits touch it, then Raleigh using same logic can claim RDU.
Plus, the airport is fully within Raleigh’s county: something that Durham can’t claim for RTP.
Guarantee you that very few in the rest of the US would know what airport you’re talking about If you told them you’re flying to Durham. Makes a ton more sense to refer to Raleigh primarily. Plus this is probably a paid NCSU advertisement hence the put what on it whatever they want; for years there was a giant Citrix ad in that same spot recruiting people to come work in downtown Raleigh for them.
Even if it turns out not an ad, it’s colorful art; I like it as a welcome at RDU.
If Durham wants to get in on it with public art, maybe they could do a colorful collage of handguns, cigarettes, and baseball?
I always cringe when I land at RDU and the flight attendants say “Welcome to Raleigh-Durham” IMO Raleigh-Durham is an airport that serves two separate (and very different) cities.
