RDU Expansion/2040 Master Plan

those numbers are originations from Charlotte. So basically Charlotte CLT and RDU have about the same O/D traffic for the Middle East India region.

Delta is bringing back their daily nonstop flight to Indianapolis, beginning August 11th.

Late to the conversation, but my two cents is that a CONRAC away from the terminals would be better for circulation. Even with a bus shuttle instead of a people mover (since we’re not likely be enough yet), there would be less vehicular traffic next to the terminals. I also like how some other airports have used a separate CONRAC as part of other airport uses like hotel, conference center, transit center, etc..

welp… its official.. down to 69.87 acres. This development better be damn worth it.

Wait… the expansion is for an entertainment district? And not specifically the airport operations? Who’s making money off approving this crap

Yea that’s the whole point. FAA is requiring RDU to make money off their land. I just hope is not for something lame like more industrial warehouses or data centers. Best case scenario.. Seems like a decent spot for the rumored whitewater center and which would hopefully preserve some of the mountain biking trails and natural setting?

This is a real shame. There is nothing about rhis piece of land that couldn’t go on any other random lot near the airport. It’s all just light industrial sprawl around there. There is even an old failed outlet mall at the next exit.

They are going to ruin a perfectly good park. For what?

Government failure + greed

My understanding is that this isn’t ruining the park around Lake Crabtree, but some unsanctioned mountain bike trails are getting impacted. I don’t personally care but the whole thing is dumb government overreach. No need for the feds to be telling RDU how to use its land beyond airport stuff.

I’m done beating my head against this wall. Suffice to say that freaking out about this is not a good look.

The Airport authority is not the same as Wake County. It was leasing the park to Wake County for $1.00 per year.

If I lease a house to my brother-in-law for $1.00 per year, then: (1) I will have given him something for nothing and (2) I will have less money than if I had rented or sold that house to someone else. I like my BIL but #2 is why I do not do that.

Wake County was getting the use of the land for free. They had the option to buy the land or rent it for reals and decided they wanted to spend that money on something else instead. Now the Airport will have more money to spend on airport things. This is how governments are supposed to work, with stakeholders clearly separated, not one big slush fund.

They are not unsanctioned bike trails. The park is shrinking to less then 1/3 it’s size. And the biking trails there a very popular and sanctioned. Or at least they were until they closed them a few weeks ago.

Maybe I’m thinking of the quarry issue also on private land that everyone was upset about. Regardless I am not in favor of or defending any of that. I just don’t care as much as a lot of people. I’m not bragging about that either, I’m just stating my opinion on the issue, in case what I’m saying comes across my wrong.

Yes. The quarry thing was a number of years ago, and those were unauthorized bike trails, on the other side of I-40 from Crabtree park. Similar, but different issue.

I hope the lake trail remains. My eagle project from 2013 is down on that peninsula at the bottom.

Aeromexico to add CUN from RDU. Will be 7x weekly in December/January and then go down to 5x weekly for the rest of the year. SO excited to see year-round service there resume. https://x.com/ishriona/status/1936219129242943639?s=46&t=OeFJnL0wJbj-AgHIp_9DmQ

Lake trail will remain. NC wetlands buffer law makes it tough to do anything else with the actual lakefront.

A question for the more experienced frequent flyers. I have an 8:15 am. flight out off RDU tomorrow. How are the TSA lines in the mornings. How much time should I account for at that time to get through security?

2 hrs seems excessive, but 1 he might be cutting it too close.

No bags to check. Parking in the economy lot and taking the shuttle. No TSA pre-check or whatever that’s called.

Thanks
