That’s St. Augustine not Shaw
Bruh… LMAO. If I were paying for a college tuition and was told to go home and take online classes out of the blue… You can bet your ass I’d be dropping out of said college and suing for my tuition money back. What a crock! They really need to just close down and sell, this is ridiculous.
It’s all over, this is just the sad last twitches
I’m going to mute this page since there’s not one ounce of positivity on here
Shaw’s doing cool stuff with all the rezoning and development. St. Aug’s… well I hope the track team can flourish somewhere
Homie all due respect but there is nothing to be positive about with every new bit of St Augustines news - they have completely, utterly failed their students, faculty and donors. Only people you should be upset with is the board of trustees at St Augustines.
I’ve done the same with the MLS/MLB discussion for the same reason. If something ever happens, I’m sure RalToday will break the stores with big bold useless headlines anyways.
Hey buddy, I’m always pretty optimistic. If you have anything positive to share on this situation, I’d love to hear it.
Ah, at this point if you drop/withdrawl there is no refund. Ironically, 4 yrs ago every college was telling students all classes would be online.
St Aug’s is just one of many campuses on the verge of failure. I hate it for everyone involved.
I heard from a student they get tons of proposals.
The blows just keep coming for St. Augustine, Wake County School Board ends their 10 year agreement where Wake students attended the university to earn College Credits for free, but the state covered the bill.
Wake school board ends agreement with Saint Augustine’s for leadership academies (wral.com)
I know some people come to the defense of St. Augst due to the historic and racial component but having $10M in unsupportable cash disbursements in FY21 alone is the definition of theft and embezzlement, period. Until everyone involved is removed, what is stopping someone from doing this again?
This HBCU is simply corrupt not all but a lot of black colleges have corruption. The boards like to pocket cash, and make the quality of life for students. Students at Howard are complaining about poor dorm rooms and mold students rioted and set the fire alarm off over it. Bethune Cookman in Daytona Beach, Florida corruption allegations there and there more. Again not all of them are that way but schools that may not get a lot of funding a lot of the boards may get greedy and protect their pockets they don’t get a lot of funding anyways ruining it for students.
Heard there is a push in Elizabeth City & Fayetteville to drop the HBCU affiliations & expand enrollment to a more diverse student body. ECSU is over 50% white already.
My daughter is a Junior at A&T in Greensboro and, thankfully, they don’t have these sort of problems there. The university has thrived under the fine leadership of their Chancellor, Dr. Harold Martin. Enrollment is closing in on 14,000, making it by far the largest HBCU in the country. The endowment is close to 200 million, lots of research going on at the campus and expanding facilities with many new buildings being constructed in the past few years with more in the plans. It has its share of issues, like any college, but not the kind we are speaking of in this thread. NCAT is a real gem in my book but I do feel bad for what has happened at St. Augustine’s. Nearly everything rises or falls on leadership.
It also helps they get State funding…Shaw & SA do not receive any funding from the State. NC Central is also very healthy…but they receive State funding just like all of the UNC system schools.
I’m glad they don’t get taxpayer funding, since their funds seem to have disappeared.
What does it mean for a school to drop its HBCU affiliation? H stands for “historically” - they cant get rid of that legacy, nor should they want to. If you mean deemphasize their HBCU ststus in marketing materials, they’re doing that already.
Yup, for example West Virginia State is always going to be an HBCU, despite its student body being only 8% black these days.
Maybe he means switching out of the CIAA for sports, but it doesn’t look like they plan to do that.
Smaller colleges and universities just have a harder time competing these days, why enroll at the smaller local college when you can do remote classes at a more larger more prestigious school?
Somehow ECSU seems to be succeeding in spite of the headwinds, but the UNC system’s second smallest school, UNC Asheville, is struggling mightily with leadership problems and drastically falling enrollment. It used to be relatively well-regarded for its academics and was actually one of the more selective state schools with regards to admissions, but at the moment it seems to be in a death spiral. Not entirely sure why, but it definitely is the case that these sorts of problems are not limited to HBCUs.
Yes, and also see prior discussion – public HBCUs are very different from private. NCCU is run by the same top-level administrators and funded by the same pot of money as NC State.
