Shaw Univ. & St. Augustine’s Univ. (Raleigh’s HBCUs)

Yeah, seemingly approaching the end of the life support…

Even after Karen Ann’s parents won the right to disconnect her from life support, she lived on for 9 more years in a vegetative state before she died in the mid 80s.

Pretty crazy that’s it’s been radio silence on the deal they made. The longer it takes for an announcement, the more it seems like the company they’re working with is not interested in getting a fair deal as much as they’re interested in getting an insanely one-sided deal.

That won’t work with a non-profit.

They said it’s a nondisclosure agreement preventing them from sharing who they’re working with. I had the same thought as you as to why.

Does this mean the deal with 50 Plus 1 is off the table?

I have always thought that SAU and Shaw should cohabitate on Shaw’s DTR campus. There have to be several facilities (dining/housing, etc) that could be shared while keeping academic programs and administration separate. I think it would make BOTH schools stronger to work together. They both contribute to Raleigh’s story and would be horrible to lose one or the other. So if working collaboratively and creatively would foster a positive outcome, then I am all for it.

I can’t answer the question, but it gave me a laugh that they shared this clearly AI generated picture as development plans.

Yes, the NC AG office shot down the 50+1 deal due to how under valued the land was in that deal IIRC. Believe I read in an article yesterday that that deal was now officially dead.

The Raleigh Downtown page shares some outrageous stuff on their Instagram that does nothing other than drive comments and engagement - which in turn just speads a bunch of things about a potential project/situation that aren’t true. The images/renderings they’ve shared on the Lenovo Center development plans are laughable.

I’d go to college here for sure:

Honestly, if I’m Shaw, I’m not doing that. SAU has so many headaches that it hardly seems worth it. Shaw has their own issues, but they seem to pale in comparison.

Couldn’t Shaw just acquire St. Augustine & its students, keep programs & staff to expand their own offerings, and then sell the property? And, like some private company acquistions, steal their name, because (IMO) St. Augustine sounds a lot cooler than Shaw.

Very obviously generative AI slop

The St. Augustine Board seems to be stubbornly fighting any merger or acquisition talk so far…not to mention the alumni.

Unfortunately, they are bailing water from a ship that has 3/4 already sunk IMO. I wish them well, but will hate to see them fail. The leadership need to rationally evaluate ALL options or they will cease to exist.

or perhaps keep some dorm names for legacy.

Yup. Speaking on this, there were local leaders in Raleigh that wanted to merge and move the campuses out to St Aug so the Shaw areas could be utilized for downtown development. It did not go over well.

Shaw has no money either…they just have a little bit more than SA

If my cat had like $20,000,000 less dollars than he currently does, he would also have more money than Saint Augustine.
