Shaw Univ. & St. Augustine’s Univ. (Raleigh’s HBCUs)

with that said has the NC University system ‘trimmed some fat’ with certain curriculums over th past few years?

I can’t speak to the UNC system, but I do know over the last few years many universities have trimmed the number of hours needed to graduate down to 120, where possible. At my own institution, Nursing is the only program not down to 120. 15 hours a semester, for 8 semesters, and you should be done. For my program (history) we cut 2 classes (6 hrs) from the Gen Ed requirements and that got us to 120.
I think for a school in as much trouble as SAU it will require not just a change in hours required, but a re-imagination for their program/mission. Maybe they do take a more STEM focus, but also there is room for a more entrepreneur and skilled trade focus. I am just spit balling here, but I imagine a hybrid approach that provided students with both skill trades experience combined with running their own business plus a healthy dose of humanities. Neither a true VoTech nor a true Liberal Arts, but a combination of both, again with a healthy dose of how you run your own business.

I’m not sure if this is truly new, but it seems St Augustine’s has been booted from their athletic conference for good. So that’s not great.

Yeah, that happened back in October. It’s moot now, but at the time the CIAA expressed hope that SAU might return at some point.
