They found out through another organization. Not really prudent for me to say where, but def. legit. It’s a solid .
As someone that literally looks at the potential park out my living room window, I will email her soon. Thanks for the tip @OakCityDylan.
It would be astonishing and exacerbating if that property was just allowed to rot in place while waiting for something to happen. At least when it was used for storing vehicles, it was “kept up” in service of its mission. It’s unacceptable to keep kicking that can down the road after all of the money spent on design concepts and all of the time spent engaging the community.
Yall went all conspiracy theory with this huh? There’s a process for the parks bond priorities. Looks like this park is in 2 of the 3 scenarios. And wouldn’t you just need a city council majority? And as long as they don’t go with the bare minimum scenario 1 (which seems like they never do for the parks), then we good.
It’s true that this bond won’t need Forte’s vote as long as there’s a majority. But even if it passes, it’s still up for a referendum -in a midterm election where you could reasonably expect a smaller-than-usual voter turnout due to low trust from voting district changes (including congressional ones).
I agree that calling it a “jeopardy” is a bit much. But it also doesn’t hurt to be proactive and deal with the embers before they become wildfires?
If anyone wants to speak with a solid group of Raleighites next Tuesday in front of City Council regarding Devereux Meadows park funding, please reach out to me asap. The more we can get, the better, even if you just want to show up and show your support from a seat.
…or just sign up here and say you want to speak in favor of Devereux Meadows Park being added to the Parks Bond (unless you don’t support it)…

Due to flight issues with @OakCityKarla’s return to Raleigh, I have to bail speaking tonight at City Council so I can pick her up in Charlotte. I’m hoping others are able to at least attend to show support for this project to be added to the upcoming Parks Bond. If you didn’t already sign up to speak, being in the audience to show support is a good alternative. Also, see above for sending an email of support!
Man where are your priorities? Stranding your wife at the airport or talking about a park? At least I’m unable to make it for a good reason…drinking beer with friends in Cary.
They called for you. Thanks for delaying the meeting by 15 seconds.
I was watching. MAB actually gave me 2 chances to magically appear and speak in favor of Devereux Meadows park being added to the park bond.
HEY! That was 15 whole seconds that someone who wasn’t in favor didn’t have to express those thoughts!!! @OakCityDylan still helped!
FYI, more people will be speaking in favor of Devereux Meadows Park being added to the Park Bond in this evening’s City Council Public Hearing. I wasn’t able to sign up in time but plan to speak at the next one. If anyone is interested in joining me, please let me know!
How many of these are they having?!
If it’s like Wendell anyone can speak on anything at the beginning of every meeting if you sign up.
It’s the same with Apex and their town council or planning board meetings too. They call them ‘non-agenda public comment(s)’ I believe but they let anyone speak about anything.
I should be signing up to speak every meeting!
Representatives from the GSNC and the DRA had met with Stormie to discuss the park and solicit her views.
2040 completion at this rate. May get completed before Dix Park though. Dix looks rough these days by the way.
I was reading this article this morning and this part I’ve highlited below jumped out at me. This is from a larger proposed parks bond they’re aiming to put on the November ballot. If I’m reading this accurately they’re going to be doing a scaled-back version of Devereux Meadows?
City leaders were given three options to choose from Tuesday afternoon based on cost and priority. They settled on option 3, topping out at $300 million. The options were significantly higher than previous project lists. The project budgets were increased 12.5% across the board to anticipate increased inflation and construction costs. To get to the $275 million number, the council agreed to scale back the $18 million Devereux Meadow park project to remediating environmental problems and adding a greenway, instead of implementing the full master plan. “One of the issues with that piece is right now we have a polluted parking lot,” said Council member Jonathan Melton. “So I definitely think we need to do the remediation. And we have a stream that’s buried there due to some poor land-use decisions made decades ago, and I’m all for that. But I don’t know why we would spend the money and then not make it accessible to pedestrians and the public and the cycling community. And I know with that piece of property, in particular, it’s really a missing link from North Raleigh to downtown and then onward south.”

Disappointing if they’re deciding to scale back on the project already
