Thanks Leo! We have to break the habit of using the “in your car solution” as the default. We should always look at alternatives to the problems.
Tomorrow evening at 6:30 at the A.J. Fletcher Theatre, the City will be hosting a panel discussing gentrification, moderated by Kristen Jeffers:
Preliminary Site plans are in for whole block at old bus maintenance facility , Blount , Branch , Person ,
Bragg Streets . 5 stories , mostly apartments & some commercial .
Today on my real estate tracker I noticed a sale, dated yesterday, of 1316 S Blount St. This is about an acre and change, across the street from the large bus mx parcel. I never saw a sale listing for the land in question, which is zoned industrial. The property owner and lessee are currently involved in a dispute with the Board of Adjustment for operating a towing yard for vehicles in violation of the parcel’s current zoning. At the 12 Aug BoA meeting, the decision on the case was deferred to the early September meeting.
The county tax book hasn’t been updated to reflect a sale yet but I wonder if the deferment was in part due to a known pending or proposed sale. Anybody have any additional information on this? The property backs up to the railroad and probably isn’t exactly whetting any developers chops, but if there’s even a slim chance it could be turned from an open towing lot into something that might actual prove beneficial to the local community, that would be very interesting.
There’s a CAC vote on the Carolina Coach site rezoning on Monday 11/4 at the Top Green Community Center
Z-14-19 - 1208 S Blount St
Meeting at 7
Vote is at 7:55
Central CAC Agenda
There’s also a presentation on a commercial project for the block south of this at 7:40
Who would be eligible for the CAC vote to be considered for this project?
Also very curious what the commercial project might be for the block south of 1208 S Blount
You need to live in that CAC region to vote.
Go to the following link and type in your address and part of the output (under Community) is the CAC you live in.

Thanks, I will schedule to be there and vote!
I couldn’t make the meeting. Any details on the vote and new project?
Not really downtown Raleigh, but an interesting new strip mall planned for 2701 S. Wilmington. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4OLaO-A-vS/
SoHi — C
David Meeker is involved in this project. They are, I shit you not, calling it “SoHi” for “South of the Highway.”
not Sobw, or So40, or SoWl, lol
Lol! Sounds like a great place for a hemp/CBD shop…
Word on the street is that it will home to a taco joint and a ciderworks by the Trophy people. Hopefully the taco place serves lengua.
I know the cider guy - used to be with trophy but this is a new venture
I like SoHiNoGa better for South of Highway, North of Garner.
I believe he’s looking to do co-working space there as well.
Any word on last week’s CAC meeting on the bus site and the commercial block to the south of it?
