It did come up at the 1st neighborhood meeting this month and the developers’ attorney pretty much breezed over it. He did say that their intention was to save the buildings and they had no intention of taking them down or building over top of them. But as you say…the road to hell is paved with good intention.

Not fir nothing but the locations on the ASRs are routinely incomplete or misleading, and a lot of the speculation and gnashing of teeth that will inevitably follow can be avoided by waiting until the plans are available in like 1 - 2 weeks.

Yes, considering that the developer initially told the the community those buildings would not be touched.

I seem to remember that the existing buildings are protected for XX number of feet from their front facades, but I could be remembering that incorrectly.

That small section is likely not part of the original historic structure. I agree that waiting to see the plans is the best approach - especially considering how alarmist that description from raleighmagazine is.

Typically the cycle goes something like this:
- Something posts with unclear or unavailable specifics
- Either someone guesses or assumes those specifics, or misreads a map
- Someone else takes #2 as gospel and then gets big mad about it, and then makes it about something else entirely
- Other people agree or disagree with #3

Plus a 25’x150’ retail building along the narrow stretch of Commerce Pl. Including the base of the tower, 7 retail spaces fronting Commerce!

Having a hard time visualizing the Martin St side of this…
…are they implying a renovation/redesign of the warehouse facade? If so, not a fan…

YES!!! So not only keeping the retail spaces along Martin in these historic warehouses, but now adding a SHITLOAD of new retail/restaurant space!!! This is what I call a TRULY TRANSFORMATIVE project. An actual, honest-to-god retail corridor. Huge!!!
