400 Hillsborough Tower

Since @GucciLittlePig guessed my “Where in Raleigh” pic, here’s a wide angle of the same area.

Was driving down on Hillsborough and took this pic, looks like the ground floor.

New day! Have dialing concrete operations happening. Pump on left and crane operated bucket on right.

Massive construction budgets aren’t all materials. I count 10 people standing there watching the concrete pump operation. They could at least get these guys some bleachers to sit in!

OK, so how much of a DTR geek dream situation is this? Beauty day, great lunch, beer and construction!
I am jealous.

We had a minor fire incident at work today, so we got to hang out outside in a parking lot for awhile. In RTP. Where there’s nothing. I wish I was downtown with a beer…

Can someone orient me with what the view from State of Beer will look like compared to the rendering? I thought the little 2 story section would be on the left, but now I’m second guessing that…

I’ve understood that the shorter section faces west and the pool deck faces east toward the very core of the city.

I think you are right @John , but I have always wondered (aside from the views) why the pool was on the east side where it would get morning sun and be in the afternoon shade. Wouldn’t it make more sense for it to get afternoon and evening sun when ppls are actually more inclined to go swimming rather than the morning sun? I question it even more now that the Warehouse/Glenwood South/Hillsborough area is really heating up. Seems like there will be a lot more “City Life” happening to the west than to the east/southeast where there is more commercial/office buildings (at this point) than anything else. #armchairarchitect :man_shrugging:

Ok, that was my understanding too. So in that rendering, State of Beer would be on the right, correct?

What’s weird is that if it is 2 stories in that left side of Dylan’s pic, why does the rebar column keep going above the 2 stories? Am I just being dense?

Uh oh, they might’ve built it too tall?! Don’t tell the Quorum people!

From that angle in the rendering it looks to be Hillsborough and West street I think.

Maybe it’s 3 floors, not 2? The second and third levels may be shorter parking levels and are deceptive in the rederring?

I made that exact comment to a friend who works at Gensler. He isn’t on that project BTW.

I was thinking that too. I just want confirmation. Lol this is my new construction project conundrum.

This is actually what I love about new projects like this, the mystery is in the details for dorks like us (me). Maybe it’s a ploy by State of Beer to keep us coming by for the duration. And then they developed their block and it begins again!

My pasty whiteness makes me prefer pools on the east, or even north, side of a building. When I go to the beach, I literally go on Google Maps satellite imagery and use that as a criteria when choosing a condo or a hotel.

Shade FTW! And even then I still apply sunscreen liberally

That’s a nice up close view. Here’s a long distance (blurry) view for contrast.

I can imagine how it will look after a year or so.
