A property directly across from the current Red Hat/future convention center is for sale. I believe this was upzoned several years back. Would be a prime location for another hotel…
424 South McDowell looks like the empty space between Poole’s and the Parking deck. Is that what the article is saying? Can you confirm it?
It looks like it’s everything except Poole’s. The quoted below is from the TBJ.
"
The two parcels form a U-shape around the building where Ashley Christensen’s Poole’s Diner is. The property that Poole’s Diner is on is not for sale. Any development would be built around the Poole’s Diner building.
"
I feel like this has been listed for a while? Wonder why its news in TBJ all of a sudden.
Concepts shown in the listing:
Yeah it’s been hanging around for a while. It was listed by everybody’s favorite CityPlat, don’t know if it’s still the case
Summarized the details from the TBJ article:
A 0.41-acre site next to the Raleigh Convention Center has hit the market for $6.25 million, with the owners pitching it to hotel and multifamily developers as activity ramps up around the convention center expansion and Red Hat Amphitheater. The property at 424 and 432 S. McDowell St. is zoned for up to 20 stories, and the listing includes concepts for either an 11-story, 168-room hotel or a 20-story apartment tower with 234 units and ground-floor retail. The parcels wrap around Poole’s Diner, which is not part of the sale, so any future development would have to be built around it. The deal also includes air rights over part of the adjacent Wake County parking deck entrance, giving a future developer some additional flexibility with the site.
I wish someone would do something with the two massive surface parking lots across the street first.
