a back pack and a pair of fiskars shears…ive done it before. face slapping limbs are irritating.
The bike lanes on West and Harrington streets will be upgraded from flex-posts to “concrete vertical separation,” similar to the Gorman St. cycle track. Bids are being opened July 14. This was a recommendation from the Active Mobility Plan that was adopted a few months back.
Folks this is why we have to paint the lanes. Y’ll complain about painted lanes but I don’t. Why? Because it’s step one, it’s cheap, and you iterate from there. Paint the lanes (with bollards ideally) for proof of concept then upgrade them later once people are sold. This is fantastic news (and was always the plan!)
Same goes for curb extensions. Painting them now seems fruitless except it means that we’ll get the real thing eventually.
What exactly is concrete vertical separation? I tried to look at streetview on Gorman and didn’t see anything.
Update on Triangle Bikeway East (I’m subscribed to their emails)
The Capital Area MPO and Triangle West TPO Boards both endorsed the alignment in June. This is a major milestone to complete preliminary design (30% design plans) in the coming months.
Anticipated completion of Preliminary Design (30% Plans) - early 2027
TBC I don’t think anyone was complaining about the west/harrington st lanes, which for the most part are one of the best corridors for bikes in the city. The “paint is not protection” line is much more applicable to the non-buffered lanes on roads like Six Forks or Atlantic, where the design of the facility doesn’t match up to the need, or the downtown lanes that are continuously occupied by parked cars or service vehicles.
What the hell is that white shit all over the roads??? /s
