Blue Ridge Corridor

Went to The Mill tonight for dinner. In the Harris Teeter strip mall, which is not my jam for restaurants at all, but it’s the same group behind Coquette and a bunch of other cool spots over the years. Really nice space, really good food and service too. We’re definitely coming back. Seems like a great place to go to before a PNC event or anything involving the art museum.

Which oddly enough we’re doing. Finally seeing an outdoor movie there for the first time, despite living like 2 miles away for 10 years. This whole area is like a hidden gem. I guess it’ll slowly get less hidden as more development comes in here, which is just fine with me

Thank you for the nice photo, but I miss my old hangout, Edward’s Mill Bar and Grill :pensive:

No offense meant at all, but I went in there once when I first moved in 10 years ago, and felt very out of place. I never went back, but I will definitely be back here. Just felt much more welcoming. Different place for sure, and a different time. I wish them well.

Did you feel at home because the army of light fixtures references and reinterprets the march of the penguins?

Downtown skyline peaking out from the 4th floor of the new DHHS. 8 floors and ~130’ more to go up.

The old chimney from the Polk Youth Center sticking up looks good. I am glad they saved that.

I will have to try and get a better picture tomorrow, as I noticed too late and barely caught it in time- but the new DHHS building is starting to peek out over the trees from Wade > 400 exit :eyes:

Here it is from the top of the Wade Park parking deck. There were two more flatbed trailers of steel staged over there this morning when I drove by.

City Council voted in favor of all the PNC Arena and general area expansion. Even though I live over here and it will undoubtedly bring more traffic and shadows, I still support this. Lol!

Goes to Wake County Commissioners next week for a final vote.

With yesterday’s heat index, shadows are indeed our friend.

Shadow is the Yin to shade’s Yang.
I’m always looking for shade in the Summer!

I’m just glad I move to the true Blue Ridge a number of years ago. Has not broke 74f all summer.

Jeez what elevation do you live at? Was in Boone earlier this summer and even there it got into the 80s. Even Mount Mitchell has reached 76 this year. Did you move north as well?

I’m at ~5000ft just north of Boone always a cool breeze blowing. Yep DTB gets hotter, guess all the flor-idiots* bringing bringing their hot air with them in summer.

*local name for people from Florida that are afraid of driving on roads with hills and curves. so that come to mountains and drive at 10mph down center of road. LOL

Hah, growing up in Northern California we had the same complaint about out-of-towners. Some of the saddest, most frightened driving I’ve ever seen.

Some of my buddies and I ride our motorcycles up to the mountains for the curvy roads every month or two. Always interesting when we get stuck behind a vehicle because you can instantly tell who is a local, and who is not. Locals will be cruising around in their pickup trucks pretty close to our pace on our sportbikes, out-of-towners will be basically idling along.

When I lived in Vermont, these people came form Massachusetts, the the local s called them Mass-holes.

Everyone calls them that. Even the people in Massachusetts call themselves that.
