Blue Ridge Corridor

I don’t have any additional knowledge but I think this sounds much more plausible than UNC using a massive campus as square 1 of their planning effort.

If I can keep my tinfoil hat on, this also comes right as UNC is hiring a new chancellor and the legislature’s clear preference is to keep the finance dufus they tagged as interim.

To be devil’s advocate… IF they were to select a site near the new DHHS building, they would have incredible access to major highways for those coming from near and far to easily access the hospital. That is one of my biggest peeves about going anywhere in ChapelThrill, both 15/501 and NC54 are choked with traffic to get there from the interstate. If you are having an emergency you would still have to fight all the stop and go traffic to get to into CH, even in an ambulance. Unless it was so dire that you got airlifted.

Well, at least DHHS is relatively close to Rex, which is a UNC Hospital, so maybe that makes the most sense. Still don’t understand why UNC would want their Children’s Hospital not next door to their main hospital, especially given the resources and synergies that already exist.

I think a lot of the land will be for all of the out patient clinics and offices that are associated with the main hospital itself.

Not the worst idea… The state (and NCSU) owns 100s of acres there for various institutional purposes, it’s a quick trip to the airport, and it’s near UNC Rex with its existing medical office ecosystem. Maybe they can buy back that Bandwidth building at cut rate.

TBJ also linked to a prior land purchase that UNC has made on 55 west of RTP, separate from its planned mini hospital on 54 inside RTP.

Because Chapel Hill has moved into an advanced plane of NIMBY enlightenment. Having entirely priced out their workforce, they’re now pricing out those workers’ jobs as well!

Perfect case for redevelopment of the 2-3 story medical buildings along Blue ridge into 10-15 or more floors. The State will work a deal on some of the tracts of land along Edwards Mill. the worst part is they can’t get the lights to work on Edwards Mill now. Lights turn red at Macon Pond now when no cars in turn lanes. Access to I-40, Airport and existing hospital going to change this area and PNC redevelopment is added.

I would imagine that putting a UNC branded children’s hospital near UNC and its medical school complex would be a desire/priority. It just seems to make sense.

I guess it’s in the Blue Ridge Corridor in the sense it’s half of the way out to the Blue Ridge Mountains?

No bigger enemy then the state of North Carolina. There on Raleigh’s list of enemies.
We have to know our enemies. This would not just help MLB to Raleigh but this could increase or contribute to the tourism and tax fund and the state that wants Raleigh to be a slave to them are tryna stop it.

I suppose that MSDs are only okay for people downtown?
After all, we already pay more than our share of the city’s services in the first place with more taxable property per acre than the vast majority of the city.

I think it’s a strategic move, since the State was already looking to Axe it. I think they will try again in the future and maybe the political climate won’t be where The General Assembly has more power than the Governor, bet Money Phil Isley adviced the City Council to ice it, and hopefully that will stop or slow down momentum for the State to road block it in the future if that makes sense.

Word is they are finally starting on the the Blue Ridge road project from Crabtree up to Rex. They surveyed almost 2 yrs ago, so this is moving at the pace we have come to expect.
